JOB SUMMARY:

The Custodial and Grounds Associate is responsible for the daily cleanliness, sanitation, and appearance of the warehouse facility and its surrounding grounds, including a rotating schedule of weekly deep-cleaning tasks. This is a hands-on, largely independent role: the person in this position manages their own daily routine and schedule with minimal direct supervision, keeps supplies stocked, and promptly reports any safety, maintenance, or security concerns to the Project Manager, and remain flexible to take on additional duties or responsibilities as business needs require.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintains the cleanliness and safety of the building's exterior and grounds, including daily removal of litter and debris from the property perimeter, landscaping, walkways, parking areas, and dumpster enclosure, and reports significant or repeat dumping.
  • Maintains clean and safe warehouse floors and common areas by sweeping, mopping, and spot-cleaning spills, stains, and debris throughout the day, and keeps entryways and glass doors clean and streak-free.
  • Cleans and sanitizes restrooms, including fixtures, counters, and high-touch surfaces, and keeps restrooms stocked with paper products and soap.
  • Maintains cleanliness of the breakroom, offices, and other common areas, including surfaces, appliance exteriors, and trash removal.
  • Collects, sorts, and removes trash and recycling from all interior receptacles daily, in accordance with facility guidelines.
  • Completes a rotating schedule of weekly deep-cleaning tasks (dumpster area, loading dock, full grounds walk & reset) so the entire facility is covered each week.
  • Keeps the cleaning closet organized and adequately stocked and notifies the supervisor when supplies or equipment need to be reordered or repaired.
  • Identifies and reports safety hazards, incidents, and near-misses to the Director of Operations immediately, and follows all safety, chemical-handling, and PPE procedures, including use of cut-resistant gloves and proper lifting technique.
  • Works cooperatively with supervisor and coworkers and remains alert to forklift and vehicle traffic in warehouse and dock areas.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned, including taking on additional tasks as business needs require.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous custodial and/or grounds maintenance experience preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Awareness of proper use/storage of Personal Protective Equipment, chemicals, and equipment.
  • Awareness and practice of GIC Safety Policies.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time against a daily checklist with minimal direct supervision.
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods, indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to go up and down stairs.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Full range of motion above the head.
  • Ability to bend, lift, and carry.
  • Ability to operate cleaning equipment (mops, buckets, wet/dry vacuums, trash carts, litter grabbers).
  • Flexibility and willingness to take on additional duties or responsibilities as needed.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Medium

Lifting up to 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. May be required to regularly stand for extended periods of time, walk, reach with hands/arms with full range of motion, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, push or pull. Regularly required to talk and hear. Frequently required to use hands and fingers to hold, handle and feel objects, knobs, keys and/or buttons.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Moderate

Employee is regularly exposed to warehouse and outdoor conditions, including moving mechanical parts, wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and outside weather conditions. The noise level is usually moderate.
