Franks Mr. Plumber is seeking an experienced Field Supervisor to provide technical leadership and quality oversight for our plumbing installation teams. This role ensures installation work meets company standards, specifications, and applicable plumbing codes while helping technicians improve their technical skills, workmanship, and customer service.

The Field Supervisor is a technical and field-quality leader, working closely with the Installation Manager to ensure successful project execution.

The Big Task

As the Field Supervisor, you will report directly to the Installation Manager and provide hands-on field oversight for Franks sewer, excavation, and larger plumbing installation projects.

Your primary focus will be supporting exterior sewer and excavation work by ensuring crews are working safely, projects are progressing as planned, and teams have the manpower, materials, equipment, and support needed to complete the job successfully. You will be actively involved in troubleshooting issues in the field, coordinating with crews and the Installation Manager, and helping address challenges as they arise.

This role requires strong knowledge of plumbing, sewer systems, excavation, permitting, inspections, site conditions, restoration, and job-site safety. While the primary focus will be larger exterior sewer and excavation projects, you may also assist with interior plumbing installation projects as needed.

The Installation Manager owns overall department production, scheduling, staffing, job costing, and profitability. The Field Supervisor supports successful field execution by providing real-time oversight, coordination, technical knowledge, and safety support at the job site.c

Key Tasks
  • Provide hands-on field oversight for sewer, excavation, and larger plumbing installation projects.

  • Spend the majority of the day in the field supporting crews and monitoring active job sites.

  • Ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and according to company standards, applicable plumbing codes, permits, and project requirements.

  • Coordinate in real time with crews to address manpower, material, equipment, and other job-site needs.

  • Verify crews have the appropriate materials, equipment, tools, and resources needed to complete work and communicate additional needs to the Installation Manager.

  • Identify and troubleshoot field issues that could impact project timelines, safety, quality, inspections, or the customer experience.

  • Support crews with technical knowledge related to plumbing, sewer systems, excavation, installation practices, and job-site conditions.

  • Assist with permits, inspections, and other project requirements to help ensure work is completed in compliance with applicable codes and regulations.

  • Monitor excavation sites and restoration work, including digging, site conditions, asphalt, concrete, and other restoration requirements.

  • Conduct field inspections and quality checks throughout active projects to identify and correct workmanship or installation issues before the job is completed.

  • Monitor installation callbacks and recurring workmanship issues, help identify the root cause, and work with crews to correct issues and prevent repeat callbacks.

  • Communicate project progress, delays, safety concerns, resource needs, callback trends, and job-site challenges to the Installation Manager.

  • Help troubleshoot customer concerns related to active or completed projects and support resolution when needed.

  • Provide field guidance and feedback to crew members to support safe, efficient, and high-quality work.

  • Assist with technical training and development when needed, particularly around recurring workmanship, safety, quality, or callback issues.

  • Maintain accurate field notes, inspection information, and other required job documentation.

  • Ensure all work is performed safely and in accordance with company safety policies and OSHA requirements.

  • Assist with interior plumbing installation projects and other field responsibilities as needed.

Desired Skills & Experience

Experience

  • 710+ years of plumbing experience, with significant experience in sewer, excavation, underground utilities, or large exterior plumbing installation projects.

  • Experience overseeing active job sites, crews, or field operations.

  • Strong knowledge of sewer and underground plumbing systems, excavation processes, and exterior installation work.

  • Experience working with permits, inspections, plumbing codes, and local regulatory requirements.

  • Knowledge of excavation site conditions, trench safety, restoration, asphalt, concrete, and related construction processes.

  • Experience coordinating materials, equipment, and manpower across active job sites.

  • Residential plumbing installation experience, with the ability to assist on interior plumbing projects as needed.

Education

  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • Vocational or technical plumbing training preferred.

Licenses & Certifications

  • Valid Journeyman or Master Plumber License required.

  • OSHA 30 Certification preferred.

  • Valid drivers license with a clean driving record.

Knowledge & Skills

  • In-depth understanding of plumbing systems, installation procedures, and applicable plumbing codes, including IPC, UPC, or local equivalents.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and installation specifications.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality workmanship.

  • Strong technical troubleshooting and field decision-making skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to provide constructive feedback and coach technicians effectively.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.

  • Ability to work independently in the field while maintaining strong communication with management and crews.

  • Comfortable using an iPad and field-service/job-tracking software.

Your Key Performance Indicator
  • Installation recall/callback rate below 3%: The Field Supervisor plays a key role in achieving this target by identifying workmanship issues, recognizing recurring technical problems, coaching technicians, and helping prevent repeat callbacks.

  • Installation work consistently meets company quality standards and applicable plumbing codes.

  • Technicians receive regular technical coaching and meaningful field feedback.

  • Installation callbacks and recurring workmanship issues remain below target.

  • Technical issues are identified and resolved quickly before they become larger problems.

  • Strong communication exists between the Field Supervisor, Installation Manager, crews, and customers.

  • Ability to work at various job sites and in diverse environmental conditions.
