We are partnering with the State of Rhode Island’s Department of Corrections to find a detail-oriented Legal Secretary to support records management, parole-related documentation, legal inquiries, and administrative processes within the department. The ideal candidate will have strong clerical, organizational, communication, and records-management skills, with the ability to maintain accurate and confidential information while coordinating with internal departments and external legal partners.

Pay Rate: $19.75 per hour

Responsibilities of the Legal Secretary:
- Maintain, organize, and update correctional and legal records, including filing documentation and tracking progress reports.
- Process and monitor parole-related matters, including tracking infractions that may affect an individual’s good-time eligibility.
- Coordinate with the Records Unit and other internal departments to verify that records accurately reflect current information and required updates.
- Respond to inquiries from out-of-state partners regarding legal and records-related matters.
- Perform general clerical and administrative duties, including data entry, document processing, records tracking, and other responsibilities necessary to support departmental operations.
Qualifications of the Legal Secretary:
- Experience in a clerical, administrative, records-management, legal, corrections, or government environment is preferred.
- Knowledge of parole, probation, corrections, criminal justice procedures, or legal terminology is preferred, with the ability to learn and apply applicable policies and procedures.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to maintain accurate records, track multiple matters, and identify discrepancies requiring follow-up.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate professionally with internal departments, legal partners, and other external stakeholders.
