The Event Technical is a hands-on role supporting BlackOak’s live events from staffing and scheduling through Support on-site setup, show execution, and strike.
This is a hands-on role for someone with live event, staffing, and AVL experience who enjoys coordinating crews, managing staffing needs and schedules, working on-site, supporting event setups, and jumping in to help the team.
Schedule: Tuesday–Saturday. This position requires a combination of office-based work and on-site event support, with flexibility to work evenings and weekends based on event needs.

Essential Duties | What You’ll Do – The Fun Stuff
- Provide technical support related to AVL (Audio, Video, and Lighting) and other event production needs.
- Support live events from planning through setup, show runs, and strikes.
- Work on-site to assist with event setup, equipment, logistics, and crew needs.
- Support AVL equipment, inventory, subrentals, and production logistics.
- Help troubleshoot last-minute AVL and production issues and find quick, practical solutions.
- Assist Project and Shop teams with event preparation, pull sheets, show materials, and equipment.
- Track staffing and event hours in company systems.
- Coordinate with internal teams to confirm event details, timing, logistics, and AVL requirements.
- Coordinate event staffing, schedules, freelancers, and crew communication.
- Assist with recruiting, screening, and onboarding freelance and event staff.
- Jump in and support other production needs as required.
Qualifications | What You Need to Bring
- 1–3 years of live event production in AVL (Audio, Video, and Lighting) experience.
- At least 1 year of staffing experience is preferred.
- Hands-on, on-site live event experience is required.
- Experience supporting AVL equipment, event setups, strikes, staging, or production support.
- Experience coordinating or staffing event crews is strongly preferred.
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work well under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.
- Working knowledge of Audio, Video, and Lighting (AVL) and live event production.
- Comfortable using tools and production equipment.
- Microsoft Office and scheduling software experience is a plus.
- Must be available for evenings and weekends as needed.
- Standard schedule is Tuesday–Saturday and varies based on event needs.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements | What It’s Like in the Office and Shop
This is an active, hands-on position working in the shop, office, and live event venues.
- Ability to stand and walk throughout the shift.
- Ability to bend, kneel, reach, climb ladders, and work with tools and equipment.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs.; heavier items may occasionally be moved with assistance.
- Comfortable working in heat, cold, humidity, and moderate to loud noise.
- Ability to work safely around AVL (Audio, Video, and Lighting) equipment and active event environments.

Pay & Benefits | What You’ll Receive
- Hourly wage: $20-$24/HR in office and $25-$28/HR onsite based on experience.
- Overtime pay will be provided for hours worked beyond 40 in a workweek at 1.5x the regular rate of pay, in compliance with Illinois labor laws.
