Bilingual Customer Service Representative – Permitting
Location: Ocala, FL
Pay:$20.88/hour
Job Type: Temporary-to-hire
Hours: 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Bilingual in English and Spanish
- At least 1 year of customer service, administrative, permitting, construction or related experience preferred
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong computer, data entry and records management skills
- Ability to work accurately with detailed information and documentation
About the Role
We are seeking a Bilingual Customer Service Representative to support a busy county permitting department in Ocala. This position will assist English- and Spanish-speaking customers while providing administrative and records support to the department.
A significant part of the assignment will involve assisting customers by phone, in person and online. This is a great opportunity for someone with strong customer service and administrative skills who is interested in gaining experience in government permitting and records.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide customer service in English and Spanish to contractors, residents and other members of the public
- Respond to in-person, phone and online inquiries regarding permits, records, requirements, fees and timelines
- Locate, pull and organize records and documentation required by the state
- Assist contractors and the public with building permit and contractor licensing questions
- Review and process permit-related applications and documentation
- Enter, update and verify information in permitting and records systems
- Identify missing or incomplete information and communicate required corrections
- Maintain accurate electronic records and documentation
- Calculate applicable fees and verify charges for accuracy
- Collect payments, issue receipts and assist with daily transaction audits
- Follow county permitting procedures, regulations and records requirements
- Provide additional administrative and departmental support as needed
Skills & Abilities
- Fluent communication skills in both English and Spanish
- Strong customer service skills and a professional approach when assisting the public
- Ability to handle a high volume of calls and customer inquiries
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Comfortable working with records, databases and detailed documentation
- Ability to learn permitting systems, terminology and procedures
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced government office environment
