Compensation: $30-$46/hr



Position Summary

A confidential healthcare organization in the Westover Hills, TX area is seeking an experienced Operating Room Registered Nurse to support surgical services in a fast-paced acute care environment. The OR RN will provide direct perioperative nursing care, serve as a patient advocate during surgical procedures, and collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesia providers, surgical technologists, and other members of the perioperative team.

This role is ideal for a registered nurse with strong operating room experience, sound clinical judgment, and the ability to maintain patient safety, sterile technique, and procedural efficiency across a variety of surgical cases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care to surgical patients before, during, and immediately after operative procedures.
  • Function as a circulating nurse in the operating room, ensuring patient safety, proper positioning, surgical counts, documentation, and coordination of intraoperative care.
  • Assist with preparation of the operating room, equipment, supplies, and instrumentation based on scheduled procedures.
  • Maintain strict adherence to sterile technique, infection prevention standards, and perioperative safety protocols.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia, surgical technologists, and ancillary staff to support efficient case flow.
  • Monitor patient condition throughout the surgical procedure and respond appropriately to changes in status.
  • Verify patient identity, surgical site, consent, allergies, implants, medications, and required documentation prior to procedure start.
  • Participate in surgical time-outs, handoffs, and post-procedure communication.
  • Document nursing assessments, interventions, counts, specimens, implants, medications, and patient responses accurately and timely.
  • Support quality improvement, patient safety initiatives, and compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
  • Maintain competency in assigned surgical specialties, equipment, and emergency procedures.

Qualifications

  • Active Registered Nurse license in Texas or compact state required.
  • BLS required.
  • ACLS preferred or required based on facility standards.
  • CNOR preferred but not required.
  • Prior Operating Room / perioperative nursing experience strongly preferred.
  • Acute care hospital experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of surgical asepsis, intraoperative nursing responsibilities, and perioperative patient safety standards.
  • Ability to work effectively in a high-volume, team-based surgical environment.
