Position Summary

Reporting to the Office Manager, the Medical Assistant is responsible for providing initial patient triage, registration and administrative services in an outpatient clinical setting. The Medical Assistant will also assist with direct patient care and performs specialized medical procedures of a routine natures, as dictated by established clinical protocol.

How You’ll Make an Impact


  • Escort patient to examination rooms

  • Prepare patients for examination; captures all vital signs & other key indicators as directed, utilizing universal precautions

  • Gather information and patient history including lab work and support triage using Electronic Medical Records (EMR)

  • Perform tests and/or procedures as directed by the provider (i.e. EKG, urinalysis, vision screening, rapid strep tests, rapid flu swabs, urine pregnancy tests, draws blood, ear washes, glucometer testing, etc.)

  • Perform routine specialized procedures, such as venipuncture and sterile dressing changes under established protocols

  • Responsible for medication re-fills and obtaining prior authorization

  • Educate and advise patients on specified medical issues within established parameters

  • Ensure detailed triage messages in EMR, attach documentation as needed & distribute to appropriate recipient

  • Monitor clinical supply inventory, requisitions supplies & coordinates restock process

  • Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies

  • Promote continuous improvement of workplace safety & environmental practices

  • Schedule and monitor patient appointments; may coordinate routine office activities and administrative functions

  • Assist with insurance & Medicare incentive projects

What You Must Bring to This Role


  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and experience - required

  • Medical Assistant Certification - required

  • Prior experience in a medical office setting - required

  • Proven knowledge of medical/insurance terminology - required

  • Prior experience with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) - preferred

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with patients, physicians & other staff members - required

  • Overwhelming appreciation for proper preparation and maintenance of medical records & adherence to HIPAA and other related policies - required

  • Track record of absolute intolerance for tardiness, absenteeism and professionally immature behavior - required

  • Proven success in the ability to read, understand, follow & enforce safety procedures - required

  • A history of excellence in communication; active listening, written communication and problem solving - required

  • Strong interpersonal skills & a history of effectively working across a wide range of individuals - required

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as part of a team - required

  • Work is performed under stressful conditions, and irregular hours in an office work environment

  • Intellectually intense, fasted paced and often changing environment

  • This role requires limited physical effort and has limited exposure to physical risk

  • Ability to stand for a prolonged period of time

  • Visual functions being those of near vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus

  • Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with clients

  • Transportation to & from work locations

  • Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard and in the performance of medical procedures

  • Exposure to bodily fluids is common

  • Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinical environment
