Position Summary

The Aftercare Teacher is responsible for providing a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for Head Start children during aftercare hours. The teacher will support children's social-emotional development, encourage positive peer interactions, and provide age-appropriate activities that promote creativity, learning, and physical development.

The ideal candidate is dependable, patient, energetic, and passionate about working with young children while maintaining a structured and welcoming classroom environment.


Hours: 2:00pm- 6:00pm



What You'll Do

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and ensure the safety and well-being of children throughout the aftercare program.
  • Provide engaging, developmentally appropriate activities, including art, music, reading, games, and outdoor play.
  • Support children's social-emotional development and encourage positive relationships with peers.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming classroom environment.
  • Follow all Head Start, Creative Scholars Academy, and state licensing policies and procedures.
  • Assist children with routines such as meals/snacks, toileting, handwashing, and transitions as needed.
  • Communicate respectfully and professionally with children, families, teachers, and school leadership.
  • Maintain appropriate supervision and accurate attendance throughout the aftercare period.
  • Support individualized needs and accommodations for children as directed by the classroom team.
  • Work collaboratively with classroom teachers and administrative staff to ensure continuity of care.
  • Attend required staff meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by school leadership.


Requirements

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience working with preschool-aged children preferred.
  • Previous experience in a Head Start, childcare, preschool, or after-school setting is a plus.
  • Must demonstrate patience, dependability, professionalism, and a genuine love for working with young children.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with children, families, and staff.
  • Must meet all applicable state childcare licensing and Head Start requirements.
