About Us:
The City purchases natural gas from the natural gas fields in Kansas and Oklahoma, transporting it via contract along the Panhandle Eastern Pipeline (PEPL) to its connection near Hatton, just north of Fulton. From there, the gas travels to a station at the northern end of the city before being distributed to our residents. The City owns and maintains approximately 89 miles of natural gas mains. Additionally, the Gas Department locates all City utilities for residents, contractors, and City crews as part of the State of Missouri One Call System.

Position Overview:
Works under the supervision of a pipefitter to provide skilled labor in the construction and maintenance of the city's gas distribution system.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Experience, Education, and Training
Completed high school diploma or equivalent
Requirements
Must pass pre-employment drug testing and submit to periodic drug testing as required by applicable laws.
May be required to work weekends or a variety of shifts.
Subject to emergency call-in. Driver's
At least 18 years of age.
Must have a valid Driver's License, CDL (A or B), or must take and pass, at minimum, the written portion of the Commercial Driver's License (CDL) exam (permit) within 90 days of hire. A class "B" CDL, at minimum, must then be obtained within the 6-month probationary period.

Essential Functions:
Receives notification of a new project, assists with the gathering of tools, equipment, and supplies needed to complete the assignment, ensuring thoroughness.
Helps secure the work site by placing signs to ensure the safety of coworkers and the public.
Observes others in their efforts in dealing with the public, contractors, and others, assuring that communication is flowing and effective to complete the project.
Assists with excavation procedures following all safety precautions and recommendations of training personnel.
Assists with pipefitting duties as approved, assuring compliance with DOT, PSC, and City of Fulton regulations.
Assists the mapping department with locates as needed.
Assists other departments in the city as needed.
Assists with utility work orders (training will be provided).
Maintains certifications through computer testing, outside training, and written tests.
Employee will assist on-call personnel with after-hours issues. After completing the apprenticeship, the employee will enter the on-call rotation.
Assists with gas leak inspections using CGI and FI equipment, notifying proper personnel of findings.
Assists in taking appropriate steps to secure incomplete projects at the close of the workday or if called away from the work site, assuring public safety and the security of the project.
Assists in completing any required follow-up and paperwork steps to complete the project.
Responds accurately, completely, and promptly to requests from the immediate supervisor.
Deals with the public in a positive manner.
Actively participates in learning all levels of regulations and rules associated with gas distribution systems.
Maintains an awareness of and successfully completes all designated steps of the apprenticeship program.
Maintains an awareness of the operation of all related machinery and equipment required to operate the department, assuring thoroughness.
Assists with the operation of related machinery and equipment at a productive level, assuring safety and the most appropriate use of the machinery and equipment.
Stays informed about the procedures and schedule for corrective and preventive maintenance.
