Position Summary
The RN Supervisor provides clinical oversight and leadership during the overnight shift in a long-term care facility. This role ensures safe, high-quality nursing care, supervises nursing staff, responds to clinical and operational issues, and serves as the primary clinical authority in the building during night hours.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical Oversight
- Supervise and support LPNs, CNAs, and other nursing staff during the night shift
- Ensure residents receive care in accordance with physician orders, care plans, and facility policies
- Perform resident assessments and reassessments as needed
- Respond to changes in resident condition, emergencies, and falls
- Administer medications and treatments as required
- Provide wound assessments and oversee treatment when necessary
Leadership & Supervision
- Serve as the charge nurse and primary clinical decision-maker overnight
- Assign staff duties and ensure adequate staffing coverage
- Provide guidance, coaching, and corrective action when necessary
- Address staff concerns and resolve issues in a professional manner
- Ensure proper handoff communication to the day shift leadership
Documentation & Compliance
- Ensure accurate and timely nursing documentation
- Review incident reports and complete required notifications
- Communicate with physicians, on-call providers, and families as appropriate
- Ensure compliance with state, federal, and facility regulations
- Report concerns to the Director of Nursing or Administrator
Operations & Safety
- Monitor building safety and security during overnight hours
- Handle call-offs and staffing emergencies per facility protocol
- Ensure infection control and safety policies are followed
- Act as first responder for facility emergencies (medical or operational)
Qualifications
- Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing
- Minimum 2 + years of long-term care or skilled nursing experience preferred
- Prior supervisory or charge nurse experience preferred
- Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills
- Ability to work independently and manage emergencies
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
