Job Description
POLICE DEPARTMENT This position normally works 10 hours per week.Approximate position hours: 7:15 AM - 8:15 AM & 2:45 PM - 3:45 PM JOB SUMMARYWork is performed in directing traffic and assisting children in assigned school zones.Examples of work performed: ensures that the caution lights at the assigned area are functioning; directs traffic as needed to keep the speed and congestion to a minim um; assists children in crossing the street; may be used in emergencies and large-scale special events; performs related work as assigned. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIESKnowledge of basic traffic lawsAbility to work in high volume traffic situationsAbility to communicate verbally and with hand signalsAbility to understand and carry out oral and written instructions Ability to stand erect in roadway to perform job at assigned timesAbility to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other employees and the public QUALIFICATIONSA valid Tennessee driver's license, good vision and hearing are required. High School education or equivalent preferred. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSDuties involve walking and standing for long periods of time with frequent use of arms.
