The Fitness Instructor is responsible for planning and leading safe, effective, and engaging fitness classes for participants of varying ages and fitness levels. The instructor creates a welcoming and inclusive environment while promoting health, wellness, and physical activity. This position serves as a positive representative of the organization and is committed to providing exceptional customer service and participant experiences.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan and lead group fitness classes in accordance with established program objectives and industry best practices.
- Provide clear instruction, demonstrations, and modifications to accommodate varying fitness levels and abilities.
- Monitor participant safety and exercise technique throughout classes.
- Create a positive, motivating, and inclusive atmosphere for all participants.
- Arrive prepared and on time for all scheduled classes.
- Maintain attendance records and class participation information as required.
- Inspect equipment and facilities before and after classes and report maintenance or safety concerns.
- Ensure compliance with facility policies, procedures, and safety standards.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies and incidents according to established protocols.
- Communicate effectively with participants, supervisors, and other staff members.
- Promote recreation and wellness programs to participants and the community.
- Attend required staff meetings, trainings, and certifications.
- Knowledge of exercise science, fitness principles, and safe training practices.
- Ability to instruct and motivate individuals and groups.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally.
- Ability to adapt exercises and class formats to meet participant needs.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to maintain a safe and positive environment.
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe.
- Previous fitness instruction experience preferred.
