What You'll Do

This role assists the teacher in a classroom of 14 to 20 Head Start children, with a primary focus on implementing daily lesson plans and fostering a positive learning environment. The Head Start Assistant Teacher will work closely with the Education Services Manager to ensure program quality and compliance with Head Start regulations. Responsibilities include:

  • Planning and implementing daily lesson plans to meet the needs of diverse learners (5%)
  • Implementing daily programs and services to meet the needs of Head Start children and families (60%)
  • Building strong relationships with families through regular communication and involvement in their children's educational progress (10%)
  • Coordinating with other staff members to ensure seamless communication and service delivery (10%)
  • Maintaining accurate records and reports to ensure program compliance and quality (10%)
  • Conducting ongoing monitoring and self-assessment to improve program quality and outcomes (5%)


Requirements

Qualifications

  • Pass physical examination, background check, and fingerprinting screen
  • Must have Child Development Associate certificate, AA degree preferred, or equivalent experience and commitment to secure C.D.A. certificate within one (1) year.
  • Able to lift a child weighing 40 pounds, 20 times a day if needed
  • Basic computer literacy in email, word processing and internet navigation (for all positions except for the cook, custodian).
  • Driver’s license required for teachers, leadership team and family advocates
  • Maintain certification in CPR and First Aid, if required
