Make a meaningful difference for patients during some of their most vulnerable moments - on your schedule.Gateway Regional Medical Center is looking for a Registered Nurse to join our Behavioral Health team. In this role, you'll provide comprehensive, compassionate care to adult and geriatric patients while supporting their physical, social, and psychological needs. You'll be an important part of a collaborative nursing team, using your clinical judgment, communication skills, and behavioral health expertise to promote safety, stability, and healing.As an RN on our Behavioral Health unit, you'll have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference every day - not only through the care you provide, but by serving as a resource and leader for the nursing team.What You'll DoProvide comprehensive nursing care to patients in the assigned Behavioral Health areaAssess patient needs, develop and implement individualized plans of care, and accurately document patient care and activitiesRecognize changes in patient condition and respond promptly and appropriatelyUse the nursing process and clinical judgment to make decisions within the scope of the Illinois Nurse Practice ActCommunicate clearly and effectively with patients, families, physicians, and members of the interdisciplinary care teamAssess patient care needs and appropriately assign responsibilities to LPNs, Behavioral Health Technicians, Behavioral Health Specialists, and Nurse ExternsProvide direction and accountability for care delivered by members of the nursing teamServe as a resource and support to newly hired, supplemental, and reassigned staffMaintain a safe, therapeutic, and respectful environment for patients, visitors, physicians, and coworkersUtilize Behavioral Health Crisis Prevention Intervention skills, including verbal de-escalation and, when necessary, restraint, seclusion, and take-down proceduresParticipate in post-intervention care and ongoing competency trainingMaintain patient confidentiality and follow established policies, procedures, and instructionsComplete required orientation and ongoing educationMaintain composure and sound clinical judgment in stressful or rapidly changing situationsOrganize and prioritize assigned responsibilities while maintaining regular attendanceMay be required to rotate shifts based on departmental needsPerform other duties as assigned by the Department Manager or Service DirectorWhat You BringSuccessful completion of an accredited registered nursing programCurrent Illinois RN licenseCurrent Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross prior to hireCurrent Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification or willingness to complete CPI within 30 days of hireAbility to successfully complete competency training in restraint, seclusion, and take-down procedures upon hire and as required on an ongoing basisUnderstanding of the physical, social, and psychological needs of adult and geriatric patientsAbility to provide safe, compassionate, and individualized patient careStrong communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to assess, prioritize, delegate, and coordinate patient care effectivelyAbility to remain calm and professional in stressful situationsBasic computer skills and ability to use applicable software programsA positive, team-oriented attitude and commitment to treating patients, visitors, physicians, and coworkers with respectWhy Gateway RegionalCompetitive pay based on experience and qualificationsPerformance-based incentivesEmployer-matched retirement savings planA supportive, inclusive work environmentMedical, vision and dental benefits View GuideThe opportunity to grow your behavioral health nursing skills while working alongside a dedicated, collaborative teamWe're a community hospital with a mission that goes beyond the job description: compassionate, personalized care, delivered by people who genuinely want to be here.
