POSITION SUMMARY
The Auditor I performs comprehensive and special audits of credit unions on behalf of Accounting Solutions clients, ensuring engagements satisfy legal/regulatory requirements, internal audit (IIA) standards, and the needs of client Supervisory Committees and management.
Please Note Before Applying: This is a field-based role requiring regular travel to credit union client sites 2–3 days per week, primarily throughout North Carolina with occasional travel into South Carolina. While the role is designated remote, candidates must be based in or near North Carolina and prepared for weekly on-the-road travel.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform comprehensive and special audits of credit unions that satisfy legal/regulatory requirements, Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) standards, client Supervisory Committees, and the needs of client management.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned credit union clients, managing the day-to-day relationship and self-scheduling on-site audit visits within the assigned territory.
- Maintain complete, accurate documentation of work performed and recommendations made for each engagement.
- Meet with client management, Supervisory Committees, and/or Boards of Directors upon completion of work to review findings and recommendations.
- Prepare written reports for each assignment, including required supporting documentation, for the Supervisory Committee and other parties as requested by the client or regulatory agency.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of legal opinions, laws, bylaws, rules, regulations, and manuals governing the operation of federal and state chartered credit unions.
- Maintain all records, workpapers, and recommendations with the highest degree of confidentiality.
- Maintain a working knowledge of the full range of programs and services offered through Carrick Professionals and Carolinas Credit Union League.
- Support marketing and business development efforts as needed to help the Audit team meet annual goals.
- Continually identify opportunities to improve the quality and cost-effectiveness of assigned audit programs.
- Assume responsibility for other projects and duties as assigned.
SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Above-average accounting and financial analysis skills
- Strong knowledge of internal audit practices, preferably within credit unions or financial institutions
- Proficiency with personal computers and standard business software
- Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of audiences, including client leadership and Boards
- Sound judgment in balancing firm recommendations with positive client relationships
- Strong research, organizational, and project management skills
- Ability to work independently, manage a self-directed travel schedule, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
- Reliable transportation and willingness to travel regularly
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business administration with an accounting concentration; 1–2 years of internal audit experience preferred.
- Prior auditor background strongly preferred.
- Credit union experience preferred; banking experience considered.
- BSA certification preferred, or willingness to obtain.
- General understanding of the financial services industry, and credit unions in particular, is desired.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
None.
TRAVEL
This position is field-based and requires regular travel to credit unions within North and South Carolina. Minimum travel expectation is 2–3 days per week for on-site engagements. Occasional attendance at conferences or seminars requiring overnight travel may also be required.
In addition to audit-related travel, this position is remote but requires on-site attendance at the office once per month for the team staff meeting, unless attendance conflicts with a scheduled audit.
