Search Services Sr. Software Engineer (Kafka)

ComResource is looking for a Senior Software Engineer (Kafka).

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Java, Kotlin, and modern backend frameworks to support high-volume eCommerce search, product discovery, and data processing capabilities.
• Build and optimize Kafka-based streaming solutions including producers, consumers, topics, schemas, retry patterns, and event-driven workflows.
• Develop reliable REST APIs, microservices, and integration layers that enable real-time and near real-time product, inventory, pricing, and search data flows.
• Partner with product, data engineering, search, and platform teams to deliver backend capabilities that improve scalability, latency, data freshness, and operational reliability.
• Monitor service and streaming pipeline performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement improvements to ensure high availability, low latency, and fault tolerance.
• Analyze and diagnose production issues that may impact service performance, data accuracy, streaming lag, or platform availability.
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code and participate in code reviews to uphold backend engineering best practices.
• Develop functional and technical documentation for backend services, APIs, Kafka event flows, operational runbooks, and assigned projects.
• Troubleshoot issues with business partners, support teams, and engineering teams across dependent systems.
• Follow Agile-Scrum methodology by participating in daily stand-ups, sprint planning, backlog grooming, and sprint retrospectives.
• Continuously improve backend platforms and streaming architecture based on retail technology trends, operational learnings, and business strategies.

Essentials:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 8+ years of backend engineering experience including designing, building, and maintaining complex distributed systems in a high-scale digital environment.
• Strong proficiency in Java and/or Kotlin with hands-on experience building production-grade backend services, APIs, microservices, and event-driven applications.
• Deep hands-on experience with microservices-oriented architecture, REST APIs, service integration patterns, and backend system design.
• Strong experience with Kafka-based streaming technologies including producers, consumers, consumer groups, topic design, schema management, error handling, retries, and monitoring consumer lag.
• Experience designing event-driven architectures and near real-time data pipelines.
• Familiarity with CI/CD, Kubernetes, cloud platforms, observability tooling, and production support practices.
• Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, distributed systems, and performance optimization.
• Excellent technical, analytical, and interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and rapidly learn new technologies.
• Ability to work flexible hours when needed to support critical business operations.
