Plant Manager
Job Description
Ameriscan Designs is an established commercial custom millwork company that specializes in providing architectural millwork, custom cabinetry, plastic laminates, complex solid surface fabrication, architectural doors and frames. The Plant Manager is primarily responsible for overseeing all departments on the production floor in our 80,000 SF facility including custom carpentry, casework assembly, CNC, edge banding, shipping/receiving, laminating and finishing. The production shift is 6:00 am to 2:30 pm, and this position requires the manager to be present during these hours to ensure plant operations run efficiently. The candidate will be working directly with production personnel, purchasing, sales, design engineering, quality control, and customer service staff.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Departmental Oversight
- Directly supervise and provide direction to all production departments
- Ensure each department is staffed, sequenced, and meeting daily production targets
- Develop and maintain manufacturing operations plans, SOP and KPI
- Coordinates manufacturing activities with all other functions of the organization and suppliers
Production Planning & Innergy
- Use Innergy to review production releases, establish job progress, plan and organize production schedules, and track material/labor allocations on the shop floor
- Ensure production data (labor hours, job status, material issues) are accurately recorded in Innergy in real time
- Coordinate with estimating, purchasing, and engineering to flag material or scheduling conflicts before they reach the floor
Production Management
- Provide input in the development of product strategy and research and development of new and emerging products.
- Establish production and quality control standards, develop budget and cost controls, and obtain data regarding types, quantities, specifications, and delivery dates of products ordered.
- Provide input into the changes within the manufacturing process plan, including personnel requirements, material needs, facility needs, and tooling and equipment needs.
- Reviews production and operating reports and directs the resolution of operational, manufacturing, and maintenance issues to ensure minimum costs and prevent delays.
Inventory Management
- Oversee raw material, work-in-process, and finished goods inventory accuracy
- Partner with receiving and purchasing on stock levels, cycle counts, and material for jobs
Quality, Safety & Delivery
- Ensure product quality standards are met prior to shipping, including finish quality, counts and assembly tolerances
- Manage capacity against job requirements to ensure on-time delivery
- Enforce safety protocols across all departments
People & Process
- Train, coach, and hold departments accountable
- Identify and resolve engineering and production errors before they compound downstream
- Drive continuous improvement in plant workflow and efficiency
- Demonstrate exceptional communication and teamwork skills
- Ensure employees are aware of and comply with policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Establish and sustain effective relationships with all employees to foster an environment where innovation and cooperation are used to solve problems.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from a four-year college or university; or 5+ years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience, preferably in a manufacturing setting as a supervisor.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. Close attention to detail. Self-motivated.
- Ability to read blueprints.
- Microsoft Office Suite and basic computer skills.
- Experience with the ERP system, Innergy, is a plus but not required.
- Hands-on experience with CNC equipment, edge banders, or laminate lay-up processes is a plus but not required.
- Bilingual in English and (Spanish/Polish) is a plus but not required.
- Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
