RBT Job Duties – Children’s Services

  • Provide 1:1 direct behavioral services to children in the clinic setting as assigned.
  • Implement individualized behavior intervention and treatment plans developed by the supervising BCBA.
  • Teach and reinforce appropriate replacement behaviors and functional skills.
  • Assist children with developing communication, socialization, self-help, daily living, and adaptive skills.
  • Implement evidence-based behavioral strategies, including prompting, modeling, reinforcement, shaping, and task analysis.
  • Collect accurate and timely behavioral and skill-acquisition data during each session.
  • Document session activities, progress, behaviors, interventions, and other required information in accordance with company and clinical standards.
  • Follow behavior protocols consistently and report changes in the child's behavior or progress to the supervising BCBA.
  • Assist with conducting skill assessments and preference assessments as directed by the supervising clinician.
  • Provide positive reinforcement and maintain a safe, supportive, and structured therapeutic environment.
  • Assist children in generalizing learned skills across people, settings, activities, and environments.
  • Implement crisis and safety procedures according to the child's approved behavior plan and company policies.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and protect the child's privacy and confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and company policies.
  • Communicate professionally with parents, guardians, teachers, therapists, and other members of the child's treatment team as permitted and directed.
  • Participate in supervision, staff meetings, training, and continuing competency requirements.
  • Maintain required RBT certification and comply with applicable BACB requirements.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and therapy-ready environment.
  • Properly use and maintain therapeutic materials, equipment, and supplies.
  • Assist with transitions between activities and help children remain engaged in treatment sessions.
  • Identify and report safety concerns, incidents, injuries, or significant behavioral changes immediately to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Follow all agency policies, procedures, ethical standards, and clinical directives.
  • Perform other duties related to the provision of behavioral services as assigned by the supervising clinician or management.

Requirements:

  • High School diploma or state-recognized equivalent.
  • College coursework or a bachelor’s degree in psychology, education, or social work is often preferred by local clinics but not mandatory
  • Completion of a 40-hour RBT Training Course covering the RBT Task List.
  • Passing the initial RBT Competency Assessment administered by a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA).
  • Passing the official RBT examination through the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB)
  • Clear criminal history via state and federal background checks.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for community- or in-home based therapy visits across Hampton Roads or other regions.
  • Active CPR/BLS certification (often required upon hire).
  • Physical ability to meet job demands, such as kneeling, sitting on the floor, and lifting up to 30–50 lbs.
