The Area Director of Sales is responsible for leading sales, revenue, and marketing efforts across a portfolio of hotels to maximize revenue and ensure operational excellence. This role serves as the key link between property leadership and corporate support and drives revenue, team performance, and brand standards.
Sales and Revenue Performance:
Lead daily revenue analysis and monitor SRP and LOS trends to maximize revenue. Perform deep dives on underperforming properties to identify lost business and opportunities. Develop custom sales tactics and new business targeting strategies with hotel teams. Oversee the retention and acquisition of accounts by growing existing accounts and generating new business to a level that meets or exceeds sales forecasts. Execute all aspects of sales and marketing plans to surpass revenue goals. Respond to RFPs for the portfolio and oversee the yielding of group blocks for better rate management. Attend weekly revenue, marketing, and brand communication calls.
Operational Excellence and Sales Coaching:
Manage day-to-day communication, coaching, and ongoing training of General Managers and Directors of Sales. Monitor property sales performance including production, sales calls, and conversion. Conduct regular on-site property walks and surprise evening and weekend visits to ensure brand and service standards. Serve as sales coverage during DOS vacancies and support fellow Directors as needed. Make sales calls, both inside and outside, for prospecting and maintenance of current accounts.
Financial and Reporting Oversight:
Review sales production reports, STAR reports, and pace reports. Assist with annual sales and marketing budgets and complete monthly revenue recaps. Ensure proper systems are being utilized to track all sales files, sales calls, and production of various rate plans for the hotels. Work with the General Manager to analyze sales and marketing reports.
Brand and Asset Management:
Serve as primary contact for brand sales audits, brand marketing initiatives, and system cutovers. Ensure all brand-required sales training is completed. Attend CVB and Chamber of Commerce events and serve on local boards as a company representative to maintain a strong presence in the community. Maintain knowledge of events in the area and at competitor hotels.
Leadership and Employee Development:
Lead onboarding of new GMs and DOSs and foster a culture of accountability and continuous development. Assist with interviews for GM, DOS, and Department Head roles, conduct annual reviews, and assist with employee relations as needed. Support recruitment and training at the property level.

Qualifications:
5+ years as Area Director of Sales, Regional Director of Sales, Multi-Unit Director of Sales, or Area Director of Operations with strong sales oversight required
Proven success leading sales for select-service and extended-stay hotels across Marriott, Hilton, IHG brands preferred
Strong financial acumen with expertise in revenue management, budgeting, forecasting, and NOI growth
Working knowledge of sales systems including Delphi, Opera, Opera Cloud, OnQ, FOSSE, and revenue tools
Ability to lead and develop remote teams, manage multiple priorities, and travel extensively, including nights and weekends
Experience with community engagement including CVB and Chamber of Commerce
Must demonstrate a positive, professional, and client-oriented attitude and constantly strive for improvements in work processes and results
