A Day in This RoleMorning dispatch sends you to a customer site where a Tier 4 engine is down. You review the work order in Fieldaware, pre-stage parts through Parts, and head out in a DOT-compliant service truck stocked for first-call completion. Onsite, you connect diagnostic tools and Serdia/Serpic, isolate the fault, and coordinate with the Service Supervisor and the customer on the repair plan. You complete the repair to manufacturer specifications, confirm cosmetic quality, close out documentation accurately, and return unused parts per DEUTZ Power Center guidelines—then you’re off to the next call.
What You’ll Do- Travel to customer locations to diagnose, repair, and install engines and related equipment (DEUTZ and non-DEUTZ construction equipment) within the DEUTZ Power Center territory.
- Troubleshoot efficiently and resolve customer issues promptly while communicating with honesty and respect.
- Plan repair methods and work sequence; pre-order required parts and materials; perform inspections safely and effectively.
- Complete all work to manufacturer requirements and ensure a professional cosmetic finish.
- Return unused parts per return guidelines and maintain vehicle inventory to support first-call completion and local parts sales.
- Keep your work area and service truck clean, organized, and DOT compliant; present a positive image of DEUTZ.
- Document work orders and time sheets promptly; use the Service Department ticket system to ensure accuracy and approvals.
- Assist with warranty claim documentation and customer invoicing.
- Follow DEUTZ policies and procedures, including travel and company credit card rules.
- Other duties as assigned.
Travel: Domestic and international travel approximately 70–90% based on business needs.
Supervision: Individual contributor (no direct reports).
Qualifications- High School Diploma or GED.
- Able to maintain DOT medical card status.
- Valid driver’s license; insurable by the company.
- Strong computer skills; proficient with Serdia, Serpic, Fieldaware, Word, and Excel.
- 2–5 years of construction equipment repair experience preferred.
- Certification/training in heavy equipment and diesel engine repair preferred.
- Hands-on diagnosis and repair experience with NG/CNG; familiarity with Tier 3–4 emissions systems preferred.
- Deep working knowledge of DEUTZ diesel engines.
- Operates with minimal supervision and meets all requirements to drive a company-assigned service vehicle.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, in person and by phone.
- Comfort with portable diagnostic tools and core computer functions.
- Owns essential personal tools; key DEUTZ specialty tools provided.
- Language: Read technical manuals and safety rules; write clear reports; speak effectively to customers and colleagues.
- Math: Perform arithmetic using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals; compute rates/ratios/percentages; interpret bar graphs.
- Reasoning: Solve practical problems with limited standardization; interpret written, oral, diagrammatic, and schedule instructions.
Shop and field environments with frequent standing and walking; exposure to weather and loud noise is possible.
Physical DemandsDaily requirements include sustained concentration, sitting, standing, verbal communication, hearing, listening, vision, lifting, and bending.
