Job Description

Homewatch CareGivers of Portland is hiring compassionate, experienced daytime caregivers for a hospice client in downtown Portland who needs dedicated, hands-on support.

This is meaningful, hands-on work with a client who deserves consistency and real presence during a difficult chapter — not just task completion. We're building a small, dedicated day team for this case, and we're looking for caregivers who want to be part of that team from day one.

About the client & the work:

  • Client is legally blind and currently needs help with toileting, standby assistance with sit-to-stand transitions, and support with walking

  • Full support with activities of daily living (ADLs) and instrumental activities of daily living (iADLs)

  • Care needs will increase over time — this client is expected to transition to bed-bound care, so we're looking for caregivers comfortable growing with a case as needs intensify, not just handling today's level of care

  • Downtown Portland location; street parking available (costs reimbursed) if you drive, easily accessible by TriMet if you don't

Shift:

  • 14-hour day shifts

  • We're building a small rotating team, so shifts are consistent and predictable once scheduled

What we're looking for:

  • Experience with mobility assistance, transfers, and personal care (toileting, hygiene, ADLs)

  • Comfort and compassion working with clients who are blind or have low vision

  • Prior hospice, end-of-life, or palliative care experience strongly preferred — this client's needs will become more intensive over time, and we want caregivers who are steady through that

  • Reliable, punctual, and committed to consistency — this client needs to be able to count on their team

  • CNA, HCA, or equivalent caregiving certification is not required — compassionate, capable caregivers are welcome to apply. Certification is a plus and reduces our orientation/onboarding requirements if you have it, but it won't keep you from being considered if you don't.

  • Ability to safely assist with physical transfers and mobility support (essential function of this role; reasonable accommodations considered where possible)

Why work with us:

  • Competitive, above-market pay

  • Small, dedicated care team — you'll know this client and be known by them, not rotated across dozens of cases

  • Support from our RN for delegation and clinical guidance

  • W-2 employment with a locally owned Portland home care agency
