W. W. Cannon offers a structured five-level certification and role progression for employees who demonstrate technical skill, safety, reliability, leadership, and continued professional development.

  • Apprentice: Entry-level position for individuals with general mechanical aptitude or related experience. Apprentices receive hands-on training in safety, tools, preventative maintenance, and basic equipment service while working toward certifications.
  • Technician Level I: Performs preventative maintenance and basic repairs on assigned equipment. Technicians at this level are certified in preventative maintenance and continue developing their mechanical, electrical, and troubleshooting skills.

  • Technician Level II: Experienced and qualified technician capable of independently performing repair, maintenance, and diagnostics on a broad range of equipment. Technicians work toward certifications across all equipment serviced by W. W. Cannon and support the development of Apprentices and Technician Level I employees.

  • Foreman Level I: Leads assigned crews and job sites while performing advanced equipment repair, maintenance, and diagnostics. Foremen are responsible for reinforcing safety standards, coordinating work, communicating with customers, maintaining job documentation, and training team members.

  • Foreman Level II: Master of the industry with the ability to perform repair, maintenance, and diagnostics on all equipment serviced by W. W. Cannon. Foreman Level II employees lead complex work, train and mentor other positions, and help uphold company standards, processes, and service quality.

  • Background Check: Ability to pass a criminal background check required for access to municipal, government, and defense contractor facilities.
  • Work Authorization: Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Driving Record: Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record validated with a comprehensive Motor Vehicle Report.
  • Drug-Free Workplace: Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment drug screening and random screenings after hire.
  • Physical Requirements: Regularly exert force up to 100 lbs. and frequently handle loads up to 50 lbs. Ability to perform strenuous and heavy work with full body motion for climbing, reaching, pushing, lifting, reaching, etc.
  • Professionalism: Strong work ethic, reliability, and commitment to safety, communication, and customer service.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Equipment Field Service Technicians analyze and diagnose installation, maintenance and repair problems on overhead doors, dock levelers, entry doors and other mechanical and electrical equipment we sell and service such as VRC's and Conveyors.
  • Communicate needs for additional repairs,part requirements or unexpected service delays as needed to the Service Support Team.
  • Efficiently perform PM's on equipment or per customer contract.
  • Attend service and training meetings and seminars as provided by the company to grow and your job skills.
  • Equipment Field Service Technicians must accurately document each service call and provide the necessary electronic paperwork in addition to mandatory inspection documentation of equipment and Safety Pre-Task Plans.
  • Field Supervisory Role - Lead and manage all assigned crew members in partnership with the Service Department Manager. Observe and ensure all safety procedures are being followed at all times with all assigned crew members.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Equivalent Prior Experience:
    • 3+ years of installation or construction experience.
  • Professional Standards: Strong work ethic, reliability, and commitment to safety and customer service. Strong problem-solving, and critical thinking ability.
  • Professional Image and Brand Alignment: Maintain appropriate dress code by wearing customer ready uniform daily and always be well groomed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 2 to 3 years of repair or service technician experience preferred.
  • 1 to 3 years of welding, electrical diagnostic, mechanical and hydraulic maintenance experience a plus.
  • Experience with installing and/or maintaining material handling equipment.
  • OSHA safety training or industry certifications.
  • Experience working on government or high-security job sites.
