Job Description
The Industrial Coatings Project Manager is responsible for the successful planning, execution, financial performance, and completion of industrial coatings projects. This position manages projects from turnover/award through final completion and closeout, ensuring work is performed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with customer specifications and quality requirements.
The Project Manager works closely with customers, field supervisors, estimators, operations leadership, safety personnel, vendors, and subcontractors to coordinate labor, materials, equipment, schedules, and project requirements. The ideal candidate has strong field and project-management experience in industrial coatings, abrasive blasting, surface preparation, and protective coating systems.

DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Project Management
  • Manage industrial coatings projects from award through completion and closeout.
  • Review contracts, estimates, proposals, specifications, drawings, schedules, and project requirements before mobilization.
  • Develop project execution plans, schedules, manpower requirements, equipment needs, and material requirements.
  • Coordinate project mobilization and demobilization.
  • Conduct project kickoff meetings with field supervision and support personnel.
  • Maintain communication with customers regarding schedule, progress, changes, and project requirements.
  • Identify potential project risks and develop corrective action plans before they impact cost or schedule.
  • Financial & Cost Management
  • Take ownership of project financial performance and gross margin.
  • Monitor actual labor hours against estimated and budgeted hours.
  • Track material, equipment, subcontractor, travel, and other project costs.
  • Review job-cost reports and project financial performance regularly.
  • Prepare accurate cost-to-complete and project forecasts.
  • Identify cost overruns early and implement corrective actions.
  • Manage change orders and ensure additional work is properly documented, priced, approved, and billed.
  • Support timely customer invoicing and collection activities.
  • Complete project closeout and review final estimate-to-actual performance.
  • Field Operations
  • Coordinate closely with superintendents, general foremen, foremen, and field personnel.
  • Ensure projects have adequate manpower, equipment, materials, and supervision.
  • Monitor daily production and labor productivity.
  • Ensure field teams understand project scope, specifications, production goals, and schedule expectations.
  • Visit job sites regularly to review safety, quality, productivity, customer expectations, and project status.
  • Assist field leadership in resolving operational issues that could affect project performance.
  • Coordinate equipment and resource utilization across projects when required.
  • Safety
  • Promote and enforce a strong safety culture on every project.
  • Ensure compliance with company safety policies, OSHA requirements, customer requirements, and site-specific safety plans.
  • Work closely with safety personnel and field leadership to identify and correct hazards.
  • Ensure employees receive required training, PPE, and project-specific safety information.
  • Participate in incident investigations and corrective-action processes when required.
  • Hold field leadership accountable for safe work practices.
  • Quality Control
  • Ensure coating work complies with customer specifications, manufacturer requirements, and applicable industry standards.
  • Verify proper surface preparation and coating application procedures.
  • Ensure environmental conditions and required inspections are properly documented.
  • Monitor surface cleanliness, surface profile, coating thickness, recoat windows, cure requirements, and other applicable quality requirements.
  • Coordinate with customer inspectors, third-party inspectors, and quality-control personnel.
  • Minimize rework through proper planning, supervision, documentation, and quality control.
  • Customer Management
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for assigned customers and projects.
  • Develop professional relationships with owners, contractors, facility personnel, inspectors, and other stakeholders.
  • Communicate project status, schedule changes, and potential issues promptly.
  • Resolve customer concerns professionally and efficiently.
  • Identify additional work and future project opportunities with existing customers.
  • Support long-term customer retention and repeat business.
  • Planning & Scheduling
  • Develop and maintain project schedules and short-term look-ahead plans.
  • Coordinate manpower requirements with operations leadership.
  • Forecast labor, equipment, material, and subcontractor requirements.
  • Track production against planned quantities and schedules.
  • Adjust project plans when field conditions, customer requirements, or schedules change.

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS
  • 5+ years of industrial coatings, specialty contracting, industrial construction, or related project-management experience preferred.
  • Experience managing industrial coatings and/or abrasive blasting projects.
  • Strong understanding of surface preparation and protective coating systems.
  • Experience managing project budgets, labor productivity, schedules, and job costs.
  • Ability to read and interpret coating specifications, project drawings, contracts, and technical documents.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
