Job Description

Job Description
Lead Industrial Automation Service Technician

Do you excel at untangling complex control issues, predicting failures before they happen, and coaching others to do the same? Join ATS and take ownership of mission-critical assets while elevating standards across our operations.

The Challenge
  1. Stabilize and optimize assets: Tackle expert-level break-fix and rigorous preventive maintenance on mechanical and electrical systems, including integrated and advanced equipment.
  2. Master the controls: Program, debug, and analyze sophisticated control systems to correct deep software/hardware and configuration problems.
  3. See issues before they surface: Apply predictive diagnostics—infrared thermography, ultrasonic testing, power quality analysis, laser interferometry, ball bar, and vibration analysis—to assess condition and initiate proactive action.
  4. Lead improvement: Drive CI projects using proven methodologies; quantify process improvements and cost savings.
  5. Engineer reliability: Identify and procure parts, propose alternative components or engineered solutions to maximize uptime.
  6. Raise the bar: Work independently to recognized industry standards; maintain 5S and best-in-class housekeeping.
  7. Make what you need: Set up and operate machining tools (lathe, drill press, grinder, and others) to fabricate/repair parts; perform welding when necessary.
  8. Scale what works: Investigate and document new maintenance methods, tools, and innovations for adoption across ATS locations.
  9. Inform investments: Prepare inputs for cost analyses on new equipment, rebuild proposals, savings opportunities, and innovative concepts.
  10. Use data to act: Keep thorough records, mine CMMS history, and analyze trends to target reliability improvements.
  11. Bridge sales and service: Provide technical content for sales quotations; complete time-and-materials (T&M) work as required.
  12. Grow talent: Train and coach developing technicians; assume project manager responsibilities when assigned.
  13. Keep learning: Pursue OJT and self-guided technical study for continuous career development.
  14. Protect people and assets: Follow all safety policies and instructions; maintain situational awareness and identify unsafe behaviors and conditions.
What It Takes
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Associate degree with technical specialization plus 7 years of relevant industry experience; or 10 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Demonstrated skill with predictive technologies (e.g., vibration analysis, laser interferometer), precision alignment, and maintenance of process equipment.
  • Broad expertise across electrical, mechanical, fluid power, and control systems; capable of diagnosing, evaluating options, and repairing.
  • Proficient with standard and specialized trade tools.
  • Ability to travel when needed.
  • Six Sigma experience is a plus.
Physical Realities of the Role

You will regularly stand and walk; use hands/fingers; reach; climb ladders or lifts and balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl in confined spaces; and speak and hear. Sitting occurs occasionally. You may occasionally lift or move more than 50 pounds. Close and color vision are routinely required. At times you may work outdoors and face the risk of electrical shock. The typical environment is a very loud factory where hazardous materials and greasy or slippery floors may be present.

ATS offers competitive pay aligned to education, training, experience, achievements, business need, and location, along with market-leading benefits: medical, dental, vision, paid time off, a 401(k) with employer match, tuition reimbursement, and more.
