- Performing bridge and structural design tasks under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Preparing and checking engineering calculations, quantities, and cost estimates.
- Developing structural analysis models and interpreting results for design decisions.
- Supporting preliminary layouts, planning studies, basis of design documentation, and structure type selection reports.
- Assisting with the preparation of plans, specifications, and engineer’s estimates.
- Coordinating drawings, exhibits, and plan development with drafting staff and other disciplines.
- Participating in field reviews and site inspections for existing structures and proposed project sites.
- Reviewing shop drawings, contractor submittals, and other construction-related documentation.
- Providing technical input for reports, proposals, and project documentation.
- Communicating progress, identifying design issues, and working collaboratively with the project team.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
- California PE license in good standing.
- 3–8 years of relevant bridge, structural, or transportation engineering experience, including at least 2 years performing bridge or structural design tasks.
- Experience using structural and bridge design software such as CSiBridge, XTRACT, Viathor programs, PGSuper, LPILE, CTAbut, or similar tools.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Mathcad, AutoCAD, and other engineering support software.
- Working knowledge of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications, California Amendments, Caltrans Seismic Design Criteria, and applicable Caltrans bridge design guidance.
- Ability to interpret and apply geotechnical, hydraulic, and other technical support data.
- Ability to perform engineering tasks independently while applying established procedures, criteria, and sound engineering judgment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Collaborative, proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to balance priorities across multiple projects or assignments.
