Position Summary

Set up and operate CNC lathes, 3, 4, and 5 axis mills, and other conventional and CNC equipment. Writes G-code and uses Mazatrol (conversational programming) to write CNC programs to machine composite parts to specification. Responsibilities also include manual tooling fabrication (metal and composite) for lay-up, machining, and assembly fixtures utilizing conventional and CNC machines and machining procedures. Assists in new tooling concept and design. Modify existing tooling as required to maximize productivity and quality. Performs preventative maintenance and makes minor repairs as required.


Duties and Responsibilities

1. Performs all duties in a safe manner abiding by company safety programs.

  • Reads, interprets and works to written instructions such as standard task procedures, work orders, work order instructions, supplementary instructions, manufacturer's and customer's specifications, Safety Data Sheets, safety rules.
  • Must be able to understand and follow verbal instructions.
  • Analyzes blueprints, written specifications, drawings, and sketches to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished parts and tooling. Plans setup operations and determine sequence of operations.
  • Set up and operate all machine tools in the factory.
  • Able to write CNC code in Mazatrol software (conversational programming) and/or G-Code.
  • Performs in-process CMM probing operations and final acceptance probing operations, both manual and programmed.
  • Performs rough machining operations.
  • Runs coordinate measurement machine (CMM).
  • Sets up and runs CNC lathe according to established CNC programs
  • Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed and depth of cut to optimize production.
  • Starts and observes machine operations to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, adjusts machine controls or tool offsets as required.
  • Collects and reports process data such as setup and run time, dimensional plotting and tracking; input recordings into statistical process control charts, recognizing and reporting trends and process variations
  • Leads team activities and training for the department
  • Cross trains in other areas as directed


Shift - Monday to Thursday 6a to 6p

Education and/or Experience

  • High School/GED or technical school; and a minimum of three to five years related and current industrial experience and/or training or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; two to four years related experience and/or training. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted.
  • ISO 9001, IATF 16949, and/or AS9100 experience preferred.
  • Experience with hydraulics, process improvements, (design, fabricate and install), milling, machining, pipe fitting and basic electrical.
  • At least 2 years’ experience with Mazak CNC lathes is a plus
