Join a well-established commercial mechanical contractor in Tampa as a Mechanical Piping Superintendent – Commercial Construction and take ownership of complex piping projects across the greater Tampa Bay area. This is a leadership role for a hands-on piping professional who wants to drive field performance, quality, and safety while staying local. You’ll be a key player in delivering high-profile commercial mechanical projects with no regular overnight travel.

About the Role:

As Mechanical Piping Superintendent – Commercial Construction, you will oversee all field piping activities on commercial projects, ensuring installations are executed safely, on schedule, and to specification. You will lead and coordinate crews and subcontractors, translating design intent into quality installations that meet Florida codes and client expectations. Your decisions in the field will directly impact project delivery, profitability, and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise daily field operations for mechanical piping scopes on commercial construction projects across the Tampa Bay area.
  • Lead, direct, and coordinate piping crews, foremen, and subcontractors to achieve production, quality, and safety objectives.
  • Plan and allocate manpower, materials, tools, and equipment to meet project milestones and sequencing requirements.
  • Oversee mechanical piping installations to ensure compliance with construction drawings, P&IDs, specifications, and mechanical/plumbing codes.
  • Coordinate field activities with Project Managers, General Contractors, and other trades to maintain smooth workflow and resolve conflicts.
  • Monitor and enforce safety practices, OSHA compliance, and site-specific safety protocols for all piping operations.
  • Conduct quality assurance checks and inspections of piping systems, identifying and correcting deficiencies in workmanship or installation.
  • Review and interpret mechanical drawings, plans, and project requirements to provide clear direction to field teams and support accurate installation.

Key Requirements:

  • Significant experience in commercial mechanical construction with a strong focus on mechanical piping systems.
  • Proven background in field leadership as a Superintendent, General Foreman, Foreman, or similar supervisory role.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple field activities simultaneously and drive crews to meet schedule and productivity targets.
  • Strong proficiency in reading and interpreting construction drawings, mechanical plans, and P&IDs.
  • Solid understanding of safety management, OSHA standards, and practical implementation of safety programs on active job sites.
  • Experience overseeing quality assurance and inspection of piping installations in commercial environments.
  • Effective communication skills for coordinating with project management, general contractors, trade partners, and field personnel.
  • Working knowledge of Florida building codes and mechanical/plumbing codes as they apply to commercial piping installations.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with commercial HVAC piping, hydronic systems, chilled water, heating water, mechanical rooms, and central plant piping.
  • Familiarity with scheduling and sequencing mechanical piping work in coordination with other trades.
  • Background in sheet metal or broader mechanical systems, in addition to a piping-focused skill set.
  • Experience working with local Tampa Bay general contractors and trade partners on commercial projects.
  • Competence with basic construction software tools for documentation, reporting, and coordination.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical trade school or apprenticeship in mechanical/piping preferred.
  • Several years of progressive experience in commercial mechanical piping construction.
  • A minimum of a few years in a field supervisory role (Superintendent, General Foreman, Foreman, or equivalent).
  • OSHA 30-hour certification or willingness to obtain within a defined timeframe.
  • Any relevant industry certifications in mechanical piping, HVAC, or construction supervision are preferred.
