The Arc Ontario Direct Support Professional - Community HabilitationSalary: $18.54 - $19.75Position Overview: The Direct Support Professional for Community Habilitation at The Arc Ontario provides individualized support that helps people build daily living skills, increase independence, and participate more fully in their community. This role allows you to explore and experience your community in a new way while teaching practical skills like cooking, exercising, organizing, and other everyday abilities that help people reach their personal goals. Every day is filled with adventures, teaching moments, and meaningful relationships as you support individuals in trying new activities, strengthening confidence, and navigating real‑life experiences. The Arc Ontario Story: Founded in 1954 we believe that All individuals with disabilities or other challenges are one with their community.ResponsibilitiesProvides hands-on assistance, instruction, and training to individuals which will enable them to develop and/or acquire skills in various aspects of daily living which may include communication, social, recreational, and leisure activities, self or personal care, household management, travel, work-related or vocational opportunities, money management, etc. in accordance with an individualized plan of service, and following all safety considerations.Accompanies individuals to activities in the community to provide supervision, skills training, support or assistance, e.g. grocery shopping, banking, recreation, entertainment, medical appointments. Assists in planning group leisure activities, recreational events and community activities, career exploration and internship coaching at the request of the site supervisor.Serves as a role model for individual's receiving supports, demonstrating respect, as well as social or other behaviors appropriate to the particular program or community setting.
