Tax Partner - Manufacturing & Distribution
Job Description
We are seeking an entrepreneurial and highly strategic Tax Partner to lead and expand our Manufacturing & Distribution (M&D) practice in the Chicago market.
As a Tax Partner, you will serve as the primary advisor for a diverse portfolio of middle-market and enterprise-level manufacturing and distribution clients. You will be responsible for driving growth, managing complex tax engagements, and leading a high-performing team of tax professionals. This is a premier opportunity for a seasoned leader to leverage their deep industry expertise to scale a localized practice while utilizing the resources of a national firm.
Key Responsibilities
Client Service & Strategic Advisory
- Serve as the lead tax advisor and primary point of contact for closely-held and publicly-traded M&D clients.
- Provide proactive, high-level tax planning, consulting, and compliance review, focusing on industry-specific complexities (e.g., Section 263A UNICAP, inventory accounting methods, R&D tax credits, and state/local tax nexus).
- Advise clients on corporate restructuring, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), due diligence, and succession planning.
- Navigate international tax considerations for clients with global supply chains, including transfer pricing, tariffs, and foreign operations.
Business Development & Growth
- Drive top-line revenue by generating new business within the greater Chicago area and the Midwest M&D corridor.
- Leverage existing professional networks and develop new relationships with attorneys, bankers, and industry associations to cultivate a robust pipeline.
- Expand services within the existing client base by identifying opportunities for specialized tax advisory and consulting.
- Represent the firm as a thought leader through speaking engagements, webinars, and industry publications.
Leadership & Team Development
- Mentor, train, and develop a team of Tax Directors, Managers, and Associates, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous learning.
- Oversee engagement economics, including billing, collections, and resource allocation to ensure optimal profitability.
- Champion firm initiatives regarding diversity, equity, and inclusion, while driving high team retention and morale.
Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum of 10+ years of progressive tax experience in public accounting, with a significant and proven focus on the Manufacturing & Distribution sector.
- Credentials: Active CPA license required.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. A Master’s degree in Taxation (MST) or JD/LLM is highly preferred.
- Track Record: Demonstrated success in business development, practice management, and client retention at the Senior Manager, Managing Director, or Partner level.
- Technical Skills: Deep expertise in corporate taxation (C-Corp, S-Corp, Partnerships), multi-state taxation, and specific M&D tax provisions.
- Leadership: Exceptional communication, negotiation, and executive-level presentation skills.
