Position Summary

Responsible for creating and maintaining high-quality snow conditions by safely and efficiently operating snowmaking equipment. Ensures consistent snow coverage across slopes, high-traffic areas, and terrain features while following established snowmaking policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

Snowmaking Operations

  • Assist with snowmaking operations on assigned trails and slopes.
  • Set up and start snow guns.
  • Monitor snow quality and quantity.
  • Ensure proper snow coverage across assigned areas.
  • Relocate snow guns to designated locations.
  • Adjust equipment to optimize snow coverage for specific terrain.
  • Prepare trails and slopes for safe snowmaking operations.
  • Understand and apply the mechanics and physics of snowmaking processes.

Equipment Operation & Maintenance

  • Operate hand and power tools used in snowmaking operations.
  • Connect hoses and electrical cords to operate snow guns.
  • Move, dig out, and thaw snow guns to maintain efficient operation.
  • Learn and operate machinery safely and effectively.
  • Operate snow machines and ATVs safely and efficiently.
  • Roll hoses and dry equipment after use.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of machines, equipment, and shop areas.

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow established policies and procedures outlined in the Snowmaking Training Documentation Manual.
  • Work safely at all times while maintaining awareness of surroundings.
  • Read, understand, and follow safety rules, operating instructions, and maintenance procedures.
  • Accurately record operational data as required.
  • Ensure trails and slopes are prepared for safe snowmaking system operation.

Problem Solving & Teamwork

  • Help supervisors address operational challenges and snowmaking issues.
  • Report serious issues promptly to management.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, supervisors, and guests.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must pass a background check
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Ability to provide a valid driving record upon request
  • Ability to use a snow machine or ATV
  • Employees must be prepared to work in all weather conditions, as duties are performed outdoors, and appropriate attire is required
  • 1 Year previous snowmaking preferred but not required
  • Ability to interpret and follow various instructions presented in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with other staff, supervisors, and guests.
  • Ability to work independently in remote locations with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work extended hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The physical demands described here are representative of those that an employee must meet to perform the essential functions of this position successfully. This position requires working in cold, snowy, and sometimes severe winter weather conditions. Employees must be prepared for prolonged exposure to winter conditions while performing physically demanding tasks such as lifting, shoveling, climbing, and operating equipment. Proper cold-weather clothing, protective gear, and adherence to safety procedures are required to ensure personal well-being and maintain safe operations in challenging conditions. Frequent use of hands and fingers is required to handle tools, equipment, or objects. Occasional standing, walking, sitting, and reaching with hands and arms may also be necessary. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
