Medical Assistant
Location: Allegan, MI 49010
Duration: 18 weeks with possible extension
Schedule: 8:00 AM–4:30 PM
Work Setting: Outpatient/Dispensing Health Center
We are seeking a dependable and patient-focused Medical Assistant to support both front- and back-office operations in a fast-paced outpatient healthcare environment. The ideal candidate will assist with patient care, administrative functions, and clinical procedures while maintaining excellent communication and teamwork with patients and healthcare staff.
This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative clinical environment serving patients ages 2 and older.
Key Responsibilities- Greet, room, and prepare patients for provider visits in a professional and courteous manner.
- Schedule appointments and assist with patient communications.
- Answer and appropriately direct incoming telephone calls.
- Record patient vital signs and medical information accurately.
- Perform phlebotomy/venipuncture and assist with laboratory procedures.
- Administer vaccines and provide clinical support as needed.
- Perform Point-of-Care Testing (POCT) as required.
- Assist with EKG testing when needed.
- Maintain accurate patient documentation in Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems.
- Support front-office operations, including patient fee collection.
- Collaborate with providers and healthcare staff to maintain efficient clinic workflow.
- Follow clinic policies, procedures, patient confidentiality requirements, and applicable safety standards.
- Minimum 1 year of Medical Assistant experience required; externship experience does not count toward the requirement.
- Previous phlebotomy/venipuncture experience required.
- Recent experience with:
- Patient scheduling
- Patient rooming
- Recording vital signs
- Strong computer, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to multitask and work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- High level of professionalism and attention to detail.
- Medical Assistant certification preferred.
- Occupational Health experience strongly preferred.
- Experience with Athena EMR preferred.
- Previous EKG testing experience preferred.
- Recent Point-of-Care Testing (POCT) experience preferred.
- Current BLS or CPR certification preferred.
- Patient population includes individuals ages 2 and older.
- Position includes patient fee collection responsibilities.
- Work is performed in an outpatient/dispensing health center environment.
- This position does not participate in HomeMed services.
