Manager, Environmental Health, Safety & Security (EHSS) - Plant Operations
Position Summary
The Manager, Environmental Health, Safety & Security (EHSS) - Plant Operations is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining environmental, health, safety, and security programs within a manufacturing environment. This role ensures compliance with applicable regulations, promotes a strong safety culture, and drives continuous improvement initiatives to protect employees, operations, and company assets.
The successful candidate will serve as a key leader across plant operations, partnering with cross-functional teams to identify risks, improve performance, and support a safe and compliant workplace.
What You'll Do
Develop and Lead EHSS Programs
- Create, implement, and maintain comprehensive environmental, health, safety, and security programs.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as company policies and standards.
Risk Assessment and Mitigation
- Conduct regular workplace assessments and audits to identify hazards and operational risks.
- Develop and implement corrective and preventive actions to reduce risk exposure.
Training and Employee Engagement
- Develop and deliver EHSS training programs for employees, supervisors, and leadership teams.
- Promote a culture of accountability, awareness, and continuous safety improvement throughout the organization.
Incident Investigation and Prevention
- Lead investigations related to workplace incidents, near misses, and environmental events.
- Identify root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure adherence to OSHA, EPA, and other applicable environmental, health, safety, and security regulations.
- Maintain readiness for regulatory inspections and internal audits.
Continuous Improvement
- Drive EHSS performance improvements through data analysis, leading indicators, industry best practices, and proactive safety initiatives.
- Support the adoption of new technologies and processes that enhance workplace safety and environmental stewardship.
Reporting and Documentation
- Maintain accurate EHSS records, reports, permits, and compliance documentation.
- Prepare and present performance metrics and compliance updates to leadership.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with operations, maintenance, engineering, security, and other departments to integrate EHSS principles into daily operations and strategic initiatives.
Occupational Health Oversight
- Provide oversight for occupational health services and workplace wellness initiatives.
- Ensure employees receive appropriate care and support related to workplace health programs.
Leadership Reporting
- Develop and communicate clear EHSS performance reporting across plant operations.
- Establish and track key performance indicators and leading metrics to drive accountability and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering, Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 12+ years of experience in environmental, health, safety, and security leadership within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of OSHA, EPA, and other applicable regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams, influence organizational change, and drive measurable performance improvements.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and project management skills.
- Experience analyzing operational data and implementing corrective actions.
Preferred
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or similar professional certification.
- Experience supporting large-scale manufacturing or automotive operations.
- Knowledge of EHSS management systems, compliance software, and reporting tools.
Working Conditions
- Combination of office-based work and regular presence on the manufacturing floor.
- Frequent interaction with employees and leadership across multiple operational areas.
- Ability to conduct facility inspections, audits, and incident investigations, which may require walking, climbing stairs, and other physical activity.
- Occasional travel may be required based on business needs.
Compensation
The anticipated base salary range for this position is $141,807 - $212,710 annually.
Actual compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors, including experience, education, certifications, skills, geographic location, and overall business needs.
