About This Role
As a Food Service Worker, you will play a critical role in providing a safe and healthy environment for children. Your responsibilities will include planning and preparing nutritious meals and snacks, managing kitchen operations, and maintaining a clean and sanitary facility. You will also be expected to support the center's philosophy and programs, and demonstrate reliability and accountability in your work. What You'll Do
- Ensure the cleanliness and functional operation of equipment, small kitchen appliances, and work areas.
- Deliver food to children in a timely and efficient manner.
- Prepare and cook food according to menus, special dietary or nutritional restrictions, or the number of portions to be served.
- Wash and sanitize pots, pans, dishes, utensils, and cooking equipment.
- Track and record food usage and expenditures for future reference.
- Supervise and direct the activities of one or more assistants in preparing and serving meals.
- Prepare a variety of baked goods, including breads, rolls, and pastries.
- Operate an InstaPot and Air Fryer with ease.
- Conduct regular inventory checks of supplies and equipment.
- Monitor menus and spending to ensure meals are prepared economically.
- Plan menus that are varied, nutritionally balanced, and appealing to children.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Director to meet company needs.
- Transport children in the center vehicle as necessary.
Requirements
- Be able to stand for extended periods of time.
- Must have 6 months of relevant experience.
- Lifting up to 50 lbs is a requirement.
- Clear vision and hearing are essential.
- A High School diploma or equivalent is required.
- A Food Management Certificate and ServSafe Certificate are necessary; obtainable within 90 days if not already possessed.
- Previous experience in cooking and/or food preparation for large groups, preferably in a childcare setting.
- Flexibility in scheduling is a plus, with a preference for weekday morning to mid-day shifts.
- Reliable attendance and accountability are expected.
- Successful background checks and VA licensing standards are mandatory.
Nice To Haves
While not required, experience with menu planning and food budgeting would be beneficial. Additionally, knowledge of local and in-season foods would be an asset in planning nutritious and appealing meals.
