Operations Manager - High Plains Region

Mid States Companies
Garden City, KS, US Full Time

Job Description

Job Description

Why Mid-States

Mid-States Companies fabricates, assembles, and constructs equipment for grain handling, food processing, renewable energy, commercial building, and heavy industrial projects nationwide. We're growing fast, and we run on three things: ownership of your work and its quality, tenacity to solve problems and hit deadlines, and stewardship of our people, equipment, and reputation. If that sounds like how you operate and thrive, you'll fit right in.

We offer to pay 100% of your health, dental, and vision insurance premiums — not a contribution toward it, the whole thing. That's paired with 401(k) match, profit sharing, a boot & clothing allowance, and paid parental leave, because we believe taking care of our people is how we build a team that lasts.

The Opportunity

We're looking for an experienced Operations Manager to lead our High Plains construction business across Kansas, Colorado, Oklahoma, and Nebraska. This is a high-impact leadership role for someone who thrives on ownership — managing field operations, growing customer relationships, and driving regional profitability, all while keeping safety and quality at the center of everything we build.

If you have deep roots in construction, industrial services, or grain handling systems, and you're ready to take full P&L responsibility for a territory, we want to talk to you.

Day to day, you'll:

  • Manage day-to-day field and office operations across multiple projects and crews
  • Lead regional sales efforts and grow the Southwest customer base alongside our Sales and Design teams
  • Own budgets, forecasts, job costs, and revenue targets for the region
  • Provide supervisory oversight of capital projects and repair/maintenance work, with regular onsite presence
  • Partner with Corporate Project Managers to keep projects safe, on schedule, and on budget
  • Conduct site safety assessments and flag hazards before crews or sales personnel step on site
  • Serve as the primary customer point of contact from first call through project completion
  • Coordinate labor, subcontractors, equipment, and materials across a dispersed territory
  • Recruit and develop a local network of skilled millwrights
  • Provide weekly updates to leadership on sales, safety, and project performance

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Construction Management, Agri-Business, Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years in construction, industrial services, or grain handling systems, with strong business development experience
  • Proven ability to grow customer relationships and drive top-line revenue
  • Experience overseeing capital projects and R&M work in coordination with project managers and field teams
  • Strong financial acumen, including budget management and P&L responsibility
  • Solid working knowledge of safety practices and jobsite risk identification in industrial environments
  • Willingness to travel extensively throughout the Southwest region with regular onsite presence
  • Strong leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to work independently across a large, geographically dispersed territory
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and CRM/project management tools

Benefits

  • 100% company-paid health, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Profit sharing
  • Boot & clothing allowance
  • Paid parental leave
  • Paid time off
  • Life insurance, HSA available
  • Real advancement opportunity in a fast-growing, employee-focused company

Who Thrives Here

  • Ownership — you take personal accountability for world-class results
  • Stewardship — you take care of the people, equipment, and resources entrusted to you
  • Tenacity — you bring urgency, grit, and perseverance to everything you do

As we grow, we want our people growing with us: taking on new skills, more responsibility, and building a career here rather than just working a job. If you're looking for a team that will invest in you for the long haul, we'd love to talk.

Territory: Kansas, Colorado, Oklahoma, and Nebraska —regional travel required.
