Job Title: Yard Laborer

Location: Richmond

FLSA Status: Full-Time Non-Exempt

Reports To: Yard Manager

Hours: Office hours 7:30 am – 4:30 pm Monday - Friday


Job Summary

Yard Laborer is responsible for receiving, moving, staging, and loading materials in the supply yard. This role ensures that building materials are handled safely and efficiently to support daily operations and job site deliveries. Due to the physical nature of the work, this position is performed in person on-site and requires the ability to operate forklifts and follow safety procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance; report to work on-time
  • Provide excellent customer service and reflect our company’s core values at all times
  • Follow all safety procedures and reflect the company’s core values at all times
  • Load and unload trucks, move materials within yard or work site, or from pallets, trays, racks, and shelves by hand or by yard truck
  • Responsible for installation of strapping, bracing, or padding to materials including placement and tightening of restraints prior to departure to prevent shifting or damage in transit
  • Read work orders or receive instructions to identify and locate materials
  • Bunk and band materials into bundles using appropriate equipment
  • Stage materials for job deliveries and ensure accuracy before loading
  • Install strapping, bracing, or padding to secure loads for transport
  • Attach identifying tags or labels to materials as needed
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the yard area
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements:

Education and/or Experience

  • Knowledge of building materials and building process
  • Forklift certification with 90 days of employment is required by employer
  • Job-related experience and/or training, which would produce the required knowledge, and skills
  • QSI provides on-the-job training

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills

  • Ability to perform tasks accurately, effectively and in a timely manner
  • Must be able to multitask, possess good communications skills
  • Must be detailed oriented and have the ability to work under time constraints
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions accurately
  • Ability to safely perform major job responsibilities with reasonable accommodations

Weight & Lift Requirements

  • Must be able to regularly and repeated lift and handle building materials located in the yard
  • Lifting anything >80lbs requires additional personnel and utilizing a dolly or forklift if possible

Benefits Offered

  • Paid vacation: 84.5 hours annually, accruing each pay period after two full weeks of employment
  • Paid sick leave: 16 hours annually, prorated for new employees
