A Manufacturing Structural Engineer designs, analyzes, and validates structural components for manufactured products or industrial equipment, ensuring they are robust, cost-effective, and safe. They create detailed designs, conduct FEA modeling, develop assembly instructions, and oversee structural testing. Key duties include optimizing designs for manufacturability and reviewing vendor submittals
Key Responsibilities
  • Design & Analysis: Develop structural designs (steel, composites, etc.) using CAD and analyze them using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for stress, fatigue, and load capacity.
  • Manufacturing Support: Create and maintain manufacturing, assembly, and test instructions.
  • Validation: Plan and execute structural verification testing to ensure products meet design requirements.
  • Optimization: Evaluate manufacturing methods to improve structural efficiency, cost, and weight.
  • Documentation: Prepare technical specifications, reports, and drawings.
  • Compliance: Ensure all designs conform to industry regulations and standards (e.g., AISC, AWS, ABS, USCG)
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor) and FEA tools (e.g., ANSYS, Abaqus).
  • Strong knowledge of materials (metals, composites) and manufacturing processes.
  • Understanding of structural mechanics and failure analysis.
  • Excellent communication skills for cross-functional collaboration with production teams
  • Common Experience
    • Experience in manufacturing, aerospace, marine, or heavy equipment industries.
    • Background in designing for high-volume or heavy-duty structural applications
