Statement of Purpose: To lead a team to efficiently and effectively receive, process, package and ship a quality protein source to our end customer.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Foreman Specific Functions

Employee Safety

· Verify line workers have been provided necessary safety and personal protective equipment (PPE) and addressing the supervisor if line workers are failing to use it.

· Look for safety hazards and act to resolve before an employee is injured, reporting immediately any accidents or injuries in production area so they can be attended to and documented.

· Participate with the safety coordinator to find the root cause of all safety incidents. Assist in preparation and presentation of suggested corrective action to present to plant manager and HR manager to correct the issue and prevent others from having the same injury.

  • Verify that supervisor is participating in and getting line workers are on time for all required safety meetings and training courses and performing machine inspection of guards and safety features prior to production starting and throughout the day.

· Verify that supervisor is orienting new employees to all department goals and objectives; policies and procedures; job expectations and routines; and safe operating and handling of food, equipment, and supplies within the production area.

· Verify that supervisor is ensuring their line is working in a safe manner and address all safety issues or unsafe employee actions to keep employees safe.

  • Work with the maintenance manager directly when faulty equipment poses a risk to employees to ensure the safety risk is eliminated as quickly as possible and ensure employees are kept safe.

Food Safety and Quality

  • Adhere to all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) to produce a safe and wholesome food product, fixing violations if observed in team members. Ensure compliance with USDA and HACCP regulations and GMPs throughout the facility.
  • Participate with quality assurance team to find the root cause of all quality incidents. Assist in preparation and presentation of suggested corrective action to present to plant manager and QA manager to correct the issue and prevent repeat issues.

· Ensure general housekeeping in your department is being upkept.

· Ensure supervisors are trained on metal detectors and perform visual checks daily to ensure proper training and compliance.

· Verify supervisors understand quality expectations and they are following them for all products being shipped from your department.

· Ensure all supervisor checks are completed daily, and paperwork is filled out completely, at the time of product production, not after completion.

Productivity

  • Work with supervisors to train and verify understanding of their daily goals. Monitor each line throughout the day and communicate with plant manager regarding any challenges the line is experiencing that is keeping them from accomplishing their goal.
  • Act as a leader for production line, discuss, collaborate and resolve operational problems and concerns, reporting problems, or necessary adjustments to maintenance and/ or plant manager in a timely manner.

· Observe and make suggestions to improve the efficiency of each production line.

· Actively monitor product yields, troubleshooting and collaborating on ways to improve production yields through improved efficiencies and reduction of wasted or inedible product.

  • Actively utilize available company technology platforms and systems to communicate and record production information. If issues are found, work with appropriate departments to solve the problem.

· Reassign extra personnel to other departments or send them home if they are not needed for production.

· Consistently verify line attendance and partner with HR for corrective action for employees with poor attendance or behavioral issues, to help keep moral high.

· Keep break times to proper length, and guarantee employees return to work in a timely fashion.

  • Work with supervisor to problem-solve line downtime. Work with maintenance department directly to convey the severity and urgency to production schedule when there is a high priority machine repair and collaborate with them on outside of the box solutions if machine is production critical and we are waiting on a part.

Leadership Qualities:

· Provide a unified leadership message with management.

· Respond to all written and oral communication in a timely manner.

· Be effective in conflict resolution by addressing conflict quickly to keep moral high.

· Responsible for development and training of employees, providing constructive and motivating feedback on employees’ performance, and communicating with management regarding this feedback.

· Develop and maintain a good working relationship with all maintenance, production, quality, management and support personnel. Being friendly, positive, helpful, team-oriented and respectful to co-workers and management team.

· Attendance and punctuality are critical. Be at work on scheduled days and be at your workstation at the start time given, realizing you are an example for your department.

Bilingual: Preferred

Education/ Experience: At least 3 years of food production experience with at least 1 year prior people management experience required. Must also possess a strong understanding of the principles and importance of HACCP.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

This position requires the foreman to work closely with other foremen, department supervisors, production staff, quality control, human resources and management, so teamwork and effective communication skills are very important.

It also requires basic computer skills, familiarity with basic computer software, and basic math skills. This person must be a self-starter and be able to schedule tasks and supervise people. Thus, they must have initiative, organization, and dependability. This position works the majority of their day stationed in a refrigerated facility. Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 20 pounds on a regular basis with the ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally. While performing the duties of this job the employee will be required to repetitively bend and twist, as well as being required to regularly walk and stand on hard surfaces, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, product or controls. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, balance and talk or hear. The employee must be able to, with or without accommodation, work in all facilities within the requirements of this job description.
