This position is responsible for planning weekly menus, ordering and managing food inventory, preparing nutritious meals, and overseeing the facility's daily kitchen operations. This position ensures meals accommodate approved dietary needs and that the kitchen remains safe, sanitary, organized, within budget, and compliant with applicable food-safety requirements. The role may also direct kitchen assistants, volunteers, or authorized resident helpers while maintaining professional boundaries in a recovery-focused environment.Make a difference as a Cook/Kitchen Manager At Canopy Pines Recovery, your day-to-day responsibilities will revolve around preparing and serving meals that align with our health-focused mission. You'll start your day by reviewing the menu and ensuring ingredients are fresh, high-quality, and ready for use. Collaborating with the kitchen team, you'll prepare a variety of nutritious meals, paying close attention to dietary restrictions and preferences. Expect to maintain a clean and organized workspace, adhering to safety and hygiene standards throughout your cooking process. Regularly monitor food inventory, report shortages, and assist with stock rotation will be essential.You'll also participate in team meetings to discuss menu innovations and improvements. Flexibility and adaptability will guide you as you respond to daily challenges and collaborate with fellow staff, embodying Canopy's values of integrity and excellence in every dish you create.Essential duties Plan, prepare, and serve nutritious meals according to the facility's established meal schedule, resident census, approved budget, and dietary standards.Develop and maintain a weekly menu, including appropriate substitutions, that addresses documented allergies, medical diets, religious restrictions, and other approved dietary requirements.Determine food and supply needs and order sufficient food, beverages, and kitchen supplies from approved vendors.Manage food inventory to maintain adequate stock, control costs, minimize waste, and prevent the use of expired or unsafe products.Ensure food is received, stored, prepared, cooked, cooled, reheated, held, and served in compliance with applicable food-safety and sanitation standards.Maintain a clean, sanitary, safe, and inspection-ready kitchen, including food-preparation, storage, dishwashing, and service areas.Organize kitchen operations so meals are prepared safely, portioned consistently, and served on time.Maintain required menu, food-temperature, sanitation, inventory, purchasing, and mealproduction records.Safely operate and monitor kitchen appliances, utensils, refrigeration equipment, and other foodservice equipment.Train, direct, and monitor kitchen assistants, volunteers, or authorized resident helpers, if supervision is genuinely part of the job.Communicate promptly with facility leadership regarding dietary concerns, supply shortages, food-safety issues, equipment failures, and budget concerns.Other Responsibilities:Check deliveries against invoices and packing slips.Verify delivery quantities, product quality, temperatures, and expiration dates.Contact vendors about shortages, damaged goods, substitutions, or billing discrepancies.Label and date opened, prepared, and stored food.Rotate inventory using first-in, first-out procedures.Conduct weekly or monthly inventory counts.Report maintenance and repair needs.Assist management with food-budget projections.Track food waste, overproduction, and resident meal counts.Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications At least 18 years old.High school diploma or GED preferred.At least one year of commercial, institutional, healthcare, residential, or high-volume cooking experience preferred.Knowledge of safe food preparation, storage, cooking, cooling, reheating, sanitation, crosscontamination prevention, and allergen controls.Ability to follow standardized recipes, menus, portion guidelines, and special dietary instructions.Ability to prepare nutritious meals for residents with allergies, medical restrictions, religious requirements, or other approved dietary needs.Current ServSafe Food Handler or equivalent approved certification.Ability to maintain required temperature, sanitation, cleaning, inventory, and meal-service records.Ability to communicate respectfully and maintain appropriate boundaries with residents in substance-use recovery.Reliable attendance and ability to work assigned weekends, holidays, and varied shifts.Ability, with or without reasonable accommodation, to stand for extended periods and safely lift, carry, bend, reach, and operate commercial kitchen equipment.Successful completion of all background screening, drug-free-workplace, health, and orientation requirements applicable to the facility and position.Commitment to maintaining a substance-free, trauma-informed, respectful, and confidential treatment environment.
