The counselor provides counseling services to individuals experiencing mental health and substance use challenges in both IOP and outpatient settings. The role focuses on helping clients improve emotional stability, reduce substance use, and build skills for daily functioning and long-term recovery.

Key Responsibilities
The counselor completes intake assessments, gathers relevant history, and develops individualized treatment plans based on each client’s needs and goals. The Therapist provides individual and group therapy, helping clients understand their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors while building healthier coping strategies.

In the IOP setting, the counselor facilitates structured group sessions multiple times per week. Groups focus on topics such as emotional regulation, relapse prevention, communication skills, and problem-solving. The Therapist also meets with clients individually to address personal concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, and substance use.

The counselor monitors client progress, adjusts treatment plans as needed, and addresses any changes in symptoms or functioning. The role includes responding to crisis situations when necessary and ensuring client safety.

The counselor works as part of a team, coordinating care with other staff such as case managers, support workers, and medical providers. The Therapist participates in team meetings and contributes to ongoing care planning.

The counselor completes clinical documentation, including assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries. Documentation must be accurate, timely, and reflect the services provided.
