COFFEE COUNTY SCHOOL SYSTEM Job Description School Nurse Responsible to: Director of Health ServicesPrincipalQualifications:Current licensure to practice as a register nurse (RN) in the State of Tennessee.Graduate of an accredited program offering a baccalaureate degree in nursing (BSN)and three to five years of recent nursing experience.OR Graduate of either an accredited diploma School of Nursing or an accredited programoffering an associate degree in nursing (ASN), plus three to five years of recent nursing experience preferably in school nursing, public health nursing, or community health nursing with children.Current CPR Certification in BLSA serviceable automobile in order to perform required travelStrong written, verbal, presentation and interpersonal skillsCompetent technological skillsEssential Responsibilities:Collects information about the health and developmental status of the student in asystematic mannerUses data collected about the health and developmental status of the student todetermine a nursing diagnosisDevelops a Nursing Care Plan and/or Individualized Health Plan (IHP) with specificgoals and interventions delineating school nursing actions unique to a student's needsIntervenes as guided by the Nursing Care Plan to implement nursing actions thatpromote, maintain, or restore health, prevent illness, and affect rehabilitationAssesses student responses to nursing actions in order to revise the database, nursingdiagnosis, and Nursing Care Plan and to determine progress made toward goalachievementConducts screenings and assesses health status which includes follow-up in primary,secondary, and tertiary preventionServes as a resource person to school personnel, students, and families, throughinterpretation of health data and assists them to achieve optimal levels ofwellness through health education, school attendance, and academic performanceProvides emergency and standard first aidPromotes and assists in control of communicable diseasesMonitors schools' compliance with State Health Regulations, Immunization Recordsand Entrance PhysicalsMonitors and helps to maintain confidential health records and in compliance withHIPPA and the Patient Privacy ActMonitors student's health and communicates with the Director of Health Serviceswhen student health issues may require additional servicesGeneral Requirements:Follows Federal and State Laws and adopted policies and procedures in accordance with School Board prioritiesConducts oneself in the best interest of students, in accordance with the highest standards of public education and in support of the District's Vision/Mission StatementsMaintains ethical standards, which include professionalism and the protection of confidential student and staff information Other responsibilities and/or duties may be required and assignedBOE Revisions Approved 2/8/10
