New York Edge is seeking an experienced artist and carpenter for the STEM Maker and Woodworking Instructor.

Work hours: Part Time (afterschool hours)

Workdays: Monday-Friday (two days per week, two hours per day)


What is a Maker & Woodworking Specialist:

This program is a hands-on woodworking and design initiative where youth from grades 6-12 learn tangible life skills using traditional hand tools. Through project-based learning, the STEM Maker & Woodworking Instructor will bridge the gap between STEM concepts and physical creation, teaching creativity, craftsmanship, and structural problem-solving in a safe, supportive environment. We use real tools and real materials to build real confidence. Position Summary

We are seeking energetic, dependable, and passionate educators to lead woodworking and applied STEM classes. This role is perfect for after-school educators, makers, or creatives who love working with youth and thrive in hands-on learning environments.


What will you do:

  • Teach or co-lead daily activities

  • Build strong relationships with and among students

  • Organize, lead, and promote interest in woodworking fields

  • Follow safety plans and procedures.

  • Build and maintain safe environments for students using tools and small machinery.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with program staff, school

  • personnel and parents/ guardians

  • Establish goals for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to

  • students

  • Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' needs and

  • interests.

  • Explain principles, techniques, and safety procedures to participants in the activities and

  • demonstrate the use of materials and equipment.

  • Other duties as assigned.


REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Must be at least 18 years of age

  • College credits and/or degrees are highly preferred

  • Must be knowledgeable and skilled in carpentry and small-machine usage

  • At least one year experience instructing

  • Experience working with children strongly preferred

  • This role requires you to be in-person at work.
