Interim Director of Human Resources
Job Description
Our client, a community-based charter school committed to providing an excellent educational option to parents of the greater Lehigh Valley, is seeking an experienced Interim Director of Human Resources to support its Human Resources team. Reporting to the CEO, this role will help strengthen HR operations, support employees and managers, enhance processes, ensure compliance, and contribute to the organization's overall HR vision and strategic priorities.

Human Resources Leadership
- Partner with executive leadership to support the organization's HR strategy and overall vision.
- Provide day-to-day leadership for Human Resources operations.
- Supervise two team members: a recruiter and an HR support staff member.
- Foster collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement across the HR function.
- Support organizational initiatives that enhance the employee experience and operational effectiveness.
- Drive activities and programs to enhance organizational culture.
- Coordinate professional development based on ongoing organizational needs assessments.
Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning
- Oversee recruitment, hiring, and onboarding activities.
- Partner with department leaders to support staffing and workforce planning.
- Identify opportunities to enhance recruiting and onboarding processes.
Employee Relations
- Serve as a trusted resource for managers and employees.
- Support performance management and employee development.
- Conduct workplace investigations and ensure consistent application of policies.
Compliance & HR Operations
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local employment laws.
- Oversee leave administration, workers' compensation, unemployment, and HR compliance.
- Support payroll and benefits administration.
- Evaluate HR systems and recommend operational improvements.
- Audit and reorganize personnel files to ensure medical records are stored separately in compliance with HIPAA/ADA standards.
- Audit, collect, and establish a centralized system for tracking missing employee background checks and mandatory clearances.
- Collaborate and align workflows with the Business Office (payroll processing) and Time & Attendance Clerk to ensure clear boundaries and seamless administrative support.
- Ensure compliance and equity across the organization's compensation structure.
- Maintain effective, refreshed HR policies and procedures aligned with employment law, HR best practices, and charter school law compliance.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Five or more years of progressive Human Resources leadership experience.
- Experience leading and developing direct reports.
- Strong knowledge of employment law, employee relations, talent acquisition, compliance, compensation, and benefits administration.
- Experience leading HR initiatives in a complex organization.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills.
Preferred
- SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification.
- Experience with PowerSchool as a school information system and Paychex for payroll purposes, or comparable systems.
- Experience in a nonprofit, healthcare, human services, or charter school environment.
- Spanish bilingual skills are a plus.
