Candidates must have, at minimum, a tLMHC or LMSW and be licensed in the State of Iowa to qualify for this position. Candidates must also live within a reasonable commuting distance of the office.

Position Description: The Behavioral Health Counselor provides individual psychotherapy and group treatment for adults and adolescents experiencing substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders throughout different programming within Elevate and Strive Recovery. Those programs include Assertive Community Treatment, IRSH homes, and the substance use programming. This clinical role within an integrated healthcare setting, conducts screenings and assessments; implements evidence-based interventions; offers psychoeducation; engages in treatment planning, evaluates level of patient risk, and submits referrals to ancillary services as needed. The Behavioral Health Counselor works collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to support patient treatment and care needs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct initial assessments for appropriate level of care

  • Lead groups on topics focused around mental health, co-occurring disorders, and other areas based on clients needs.

  • Work with other outpatient team members to help them develop and implement appropriate interventions for individuals living with mental health conditions.

  • Teaching and modeling clinical interventions, recovery-oriented practices, and culturally competent services for each client served.

  • Maintaining accountability for professional standards within the outpatient clinic and implementing policies and procedures for these areas.

  • Provide therapeutic treatment in individual, group, and family sessions.

  • Through the assessment process, determines the youth/family strengths, need for treatment, need for additional assessment, and makes appropriate referrals for additional services and supports.

  • Provides crisis intervention to youth and families as needed, including in emergency situations

  • Develop client treatment plans with measurable goals and objectives based on individual client strengths and needs

  • Review and modify such treatment plans as needed to correspond with changes in clients' status

  • Coordinate with other professionals, such as mental health providers, doctors, nurses, social workers, courts, probation officers, community services, or other post-treatment agencies

  • Complete all required documentation in Elevate electronic health record within time frame standards per company policy and all standards required for CARF and Department of Public Health.

  • Maintain caseload of patients; coordinates with receptionist staff regarding daily schedule; and meets/exceeds department productivity standard.

  • Establish trust and rapport to develop and sustain professional relationships with patients, providers, and partners.

· Knowledge of the current Iowa DHS and CARF standards

· Must have considerable knowledge in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual

· Other duties as assigned by clinical director

QUALIFICATIONS:

· Required to have minimum of tLMHC or LMSW

· Prefer LISW or LMHC

Skills/Experience Required

%CF; Experience treating mental health disorders and co-occurring disorders.

%CF; Must have considerable knowledge in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual and the current American Society of Addiction Medicine patient placement criteria and as it relates to substance-related disorders or the able to acquire the knowledge

%CF; Must have knowledge of different approaches to counseling and accepted clinical practices

%CF; Must have knowledge of Code of Ethics for counseling

%CF; Ability to perform core functions accepted for Behavioral Health Professionals

The salary range for this position is $55,000–$65,000 per year, based on experience and level of licensure. Candidates who hold an LMHC or LISW may be considered for the $65,000 annual salary.
