Clinical Assistant - Part-time
Job Description
Capital Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine (COSM) is looking for a Part-time Clinical Assistant to join our team! This is a great opportunity for a healthcare professional who enjoys working directly with patients, supporting physicians, and being part of a fast-paced clinical environment.
Hours of the Position:
Tuesday: All Day
Wednesday: Afternoon hours only
Thursday: Morning hours only
Friday: Morning hours only

What You’ll Do
As a Part-Time Clinical Assistant, you will play an important role in providing an excellent patient experience while supporting our physicians and clinical team.
Responsibilities include:
- Assist physicians and clinical leads with patient care and movement throughout the clinic
- Room patients, obtain medical histories and chief complaints, and accurately document information in the EMR
- Provide direct assistance to physicians and physician assistants in and out of exam rooms
- Process prescription requests according to physician orders and established protocols
- Prepare and document physician orders for surgeries, diagnostic testing, and other recommended services
- Obtain surgical consents according to physician and facility protocols
- Complete screening questionnaires for diagnostic testing and surgical procedures
- Apply and remove casts, splints, and DME supplies and complete required billing documentation
- Provide patients with post-operative instructions and education according to physician protocols
- Assist with suture removal as directed
- Perform X-rays according to physician protocols, when applicable
- Clean and stock exam rooms
- Ensure equipment and instruments are properly sterilized and ready for the next clinic day
- Provide professional, compassionate customer service to patients, families, physicians, coworkers, vendors, and other partners
Required:
- High school diploma or GED
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Valid Iowa driver's license
- Knowledge of electronic medical records
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Strong verbal, written, and customer service skills
- Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions
- Knowledge of HIPAA guidelines and regulations
- Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR certification
- Must obtain and maintain required professional certification
- Mandatory reporter certification for both children and adults
Candidates must hold an active certification or license in one of the following areas:
Registered Nurse (RN), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Registered Radiologic Technologist [RT(R)], Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) or Kinesiology certification.
Physical RequirementsThis position requires the ability to:
- Stand and/or sit for extended periods
- Bend, twist, lift, grip, carry, touch, speak, and listen
- Lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds
- Demonstrate adequate vision and hearing to perform essential job functions
