Position Summary
BioPhase Solutions is seeking an Associate, Breeding & Trait Development to support plant breeding and trait development activities for an innovative agricultural biotechnology company in San Diego.
This position will support the development and evaluation of gene-edited plants across tissue culture, growth chamber, and greenhouse environments. The ideal candidate will have a background in plant science, horticulture, greenhouse operations, plant breeding, botany, or a related field.
Responsibilities
- Support the development and maintenance of plants in tissue culture, growth chambers, and greenhouse environments
- Assist with plant breeding and trait development activities
- Support greenhouse plant care and maintenance
- Assist with plant evaluations and seasonal trial activities
- Travel within the U.S. as needed to support multi-location evaluations and seasonal nursery activities
- Help provide occasional weekend or holiday greenhouse coverage on a rotating basis
- Maintain accurate records and utilize standard computer programs, including Microsoft Office
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline with 0–2 years of relevant experience, OR Associate’s degree/high school diploma with 2–4 years of relevant experience
- Experience or educational background in plant culture, greenhouse maintenance, horticulture, plant breeding, botany, plant pathology, or a related area
- Comfortable working in hot and humid greenhouse environments
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Strong organizational and basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office
- Ability to work onsite five days per week and provide occasional overtime or rotating weekend/holiday coverage as needed
- Ability to travel domestically during certain seasonal periods
- Must be authorized to work in the United States
