Job Title: Field Laborer

Position Type: Hourly. 7A – 5P; Hours may vary based on project needs

Exemption Status: Non-Exempt

Department/Division: Pavement Marking

Organizational Alignment:


  • Reports to: Foreman
  • Direct report staff includes: NA
  • Provides indirect leadership to: NA

Position Summary:

The Field Laborer is responsible for performing onsite duties and ensuring that construction and safety standards are maintained at all pavement marking projects performed by First Star Safety.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Install temporary pavement markings
  • Operate and maintain paint trucks
  • Implement striping plans and perform needed layout
  • Set traffic cones
  • Flagging Traffic
  • Driving trail vehicles
  • Project setup and breakdown including
    • Signs
    • Cones
    • Stenciling
    • Cleaning road

  • Flags traffic

  • Drives follow/Trail vehicle

  • Sets signs in place
  • Log yield conversions
  • Assist supervisor in various tasks and duties.
  • Document daily activities and report findings.
  • Immediately notifies foreman and supervisors of any emergency, worksite accidents or other serious incidents
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines, including Wearing proper and necessary PPE at all times

  • Assist with special projects or tasks as needed to support the overall organization's objectives

  • Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of projects

Performance Expectations/KPIs:


  • Accuracy in setting up pavement markings
  • Timely and precise documentation of activities and findings.
  • Required Resource Availability: Percentage of times all required resources (materials, equipment) are available at the start of a task or project.
  • Feedback from supervisors regarding support and efficiency.
  • Safety Incident Reporting accuracy
  • The number of safety protocol breaches.

Qualifications:


  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Familiarity with ODOT standards is preferred

  • Heavy highway experience is preferred

  • Knowledge in traffic control and/or highway construction a plus

  • Have knowledge of hand tools and other tools

  • Team player with good interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work extended hours when necessary.

  • Motivated, self-driven, and able to work with minimal oversight.

  • Clean, organized work habits.

  • Physical aptitude to handle weights and prolonged standing.

  • Commitment to safety and quality

  • Must pass and maintain a clean drug screen

  • Must become an active Union member of the Laborers’ International Union of North America

Licenses or Certifications:


  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and a driving record suitable for insurability.

  • Worksite Traffic Supervisor (WTS) Certification Preferred

  • CPR Certified Preferred

  • First Aid Certification Preferred

  • ATSSA Certification Preferred

  • CDL

Abilities:


  • Possess all auditory, speaking and communicating capabilities

  • Physical requirements: sitting, standing, walking, bending, twisting, holding, climbing, pushing, pulling, lifting up to 75 + lbs., seeing and reading

  • All FSS employees are required to comply with our Substance Abuse Prevention Policy as a condition of employment. FSS may condition offers of employment upon taking and passing of a post-offer/pre-employment drug screen.
  • Must pass a motor vehicle report
