Northwest Florida Community Hospital is seeking a dependable, organized, and customer-focused PRN Unit Secretary to join our Medical-Surgical team. This position provides essential clerical and administrative support to nursing staff while helping maintain efficient communication and workflow throughout the unit.


Responsibilities

  • Serve as a central communication point for the Med-Surg unit.

  • Answer and route telephone calls and assist with patient call systems as appropriate.

  • Greet patients, visitors, physicians, and staff in a professional manner.

  • Provide clerical and administrative support to nurses and other clinical staff.

  • Assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.

  • Maintain accurate patient records and unit documentation.

  • Process and communicate provider orders according to NFCH procedures and within the scope of the position.

  • Coordinate communication between nursing, providers, ancillary departments, and other hospital departments.

  • Assist with coordinating tests, procedures, transportation, and other patient services.

  • Maintain an organized nurses' station and support efficient unit workflow.

  • Maintain patient confidentiality and follow HIPAA requirements.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Previous hospital, medical office, or healthcare experience preferred.

  • Previous Unit Secretary, Medical Secretary, CNA, or related healthcare experience preferred.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.

  • Basic computer and data-entry skills required.

  • Strong communication, organizational, and customer-service skills.

  • Ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities in a fast-paced hospital environment.

  • Must be dependable and available to work PRN based on department staffing needs.
