Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) Team Leader, the JAG Career Specialist is responsible for identifying, recruiting, and instructing students who face challenges in academic promotion, graduation, and the transition from school to a career. This role focuses on providing comprehensive support to ensure students’ success in education and career advancement opportunities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
- Ensures all interactions, processes and materials align with the Transition to Success (TSS) philosophy and practices.
- Implements the JAG curriculum to help students acquire specific competencies.
- Utilizes diverse teaching methods such as lectures, hands-on activities, and team teaching to cater to the unique needs of each student.
- Develops and implements individual intervention strategies.
- Recruits students directly and secure referrals from school personnel, the Advisory Committee, and parents.
- Conducts interviews with potential candidates and referring parties to assess student eligibility using JAG guidelines.
- Administers assessments and career interest surveys.
- Creates and implements career development plans tailored to each enrolled student.
- Builds positive relationships with school personnel, including teachers, administrators, and the Advisory Committee. Promotes the JAG program within schools and the broader community.
- Attends and speaks at community events.
- Works with employers, parents, civic groups, and legislators to foster awareness and support for the program.
- Develops job opportunities, internships, apprenticeships, job shadows and participate in public relations activities.
- Organizes and advises the JAG Career Association to foster teamwork, belonging, and community service.
- Provides guidance, counseling, and support, referring students to additional services as needed.
- Adheres to school policies regarding discipline, attendance, and mandated reporting.
- Maintains timely and accurate documentation, including student, employer, community contacts, classroom activities in JAGForce and student hard file.
- Keep secured filing cabinet which contains student files.
- Assists students in securing and maintaining employment or post-secondary educational opportunities.
- Provides follow-up support for 12 months post-graduation to ensure successful employment outcomes.
- Develops contact plans for non-graduates to facilitate transitions to employment or further education.
- Maintains regular and prompt attendance.
- Travels to meetings, events and trainings locally and out of state.
- Other duties may be assigned.
Additional Responsibilities
- Participates in staff meetings, regional and statewide meetings, and professional development activities locally and out of state.
- Participates in school-related activities, including lunch duty and field trips.
- Completes special projects as assigned.

Ability to engage with school staff, students, employers and members of the community.

Ability to establish supportive relationships with students while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
Ability to effectively communicate with diverse audiences to educate and advocate for the JAG program.
Ability to develop curriculum and educational opportunities aligned with the JAG model.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with school and organizational policies.
Ability to pass criminal background check.
Required Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and experience working with high school students. A valid Wisconsin Teaching License may be required depending on the location of the position.

Certificates and Licenses:
Maintain valid driver’s license and be insurable.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient in computer applications, including word processing, spreadsheet software, presentation tools, and database management systems. Experience with virtual learning platforms, digital communication tools, and student information systems is preferred. Advanced Microsoft Office 365 knowledge with the ability to learn program specific software and other technological tools. They need to be able to type 30WPM with at least 95% accuracy.
Language Skills:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to analyze data, find patterns and make recommendations.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervises staff throughout the state. Directly supervises Refugee Support Services Case Managers.
