We are seeking a Staff Cultural Resources Specialist to support environmental and infrastructure projects across the Upper Midwest. This role will focus on cultural resources studies, archaeological fieldwork, construction monitoring, and project coordination across a variety of utility and public sector initiatives.
This position includes a mix of fieldwork, project coordination, reporting, and support for proposal and project development efforts. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, field-capable, and comfortable working across both technical and client-facing environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct archaeological fieldwork including surveys, excavation, construction monitoring, and data collection
- Plan, coordinate, and support cultural resources components across project lifecycles
- Prepare technical reports and documentation related to cultural resource findings
- Support project planning including scoping, budgeting, scheduling, and deadlines
- Collaborate with internal teams, clients, and external stakeholders
- Assist with proposal development and contract support efforts
- Supervise field efforts and provide guidance to junior staff
- Ensure compliance with federal and state historic preservation regulations
- Support identification of new project opportunities and assist with business development efforts
- Maintain project schedules, communication, and deliverables
- Travel to project sites as required (~50%)
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or related field (required)
- Master’s degree preferred
- 4+ years of experience in cultural resources, including field investigations, surveys, and excavation
- Experience with construction monitoring and archaeological fieldwork
- Knowledge of National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) and related regulations
- Experience working in the Upper Midwest or Great Plains region preferred
- Ability to perform artifact identification and technical reporting
- Experience using GPS equipment and field data collection tools
- Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills
- Ability to adapt to dynamic field environments and changing project needs
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
- Valid driver’s license required; must meet motor vehicle standards to maintain driving privileges
Work Environment:
- Hybrid (field + office-based role)
- Approximately 50% travel required
