POSITION OVERVIEW – Human Resources Specialist III
The main function of a human resources specialist is to plan, direct, and coordinate human resource management activities of an organization to maximize the strategic use of human resources and maintain functions. A typical human resources specialist is responsible for a wide range of organization development activities, such as employee compensation, recruitment (as it relates to policy), personnel policies and regulatory compliance.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Manage the administration of all U.S. leave programs, including FMLA, ADA, Short-Term Disability, Long-Term Disability, Paid Parental Leave, Military Leave, Personal Leave, and applicable state leave programs.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with Reliance Matrix/Reliance Standard Life Insurance, managing case escalations, claim reviews, operational performance, and service delivery.
  • Lead the ADA interactive process and coordinate reasonable accommodation requests with employees, managers, HR, Legal, and healthcare providers.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local leave regulations, including FMLA, ADA, PWFA, USERRA, and applicable state leave laws.
  • Create, maintain, and close Leave of Absence events in Workday, ensuring accurate employee records and timely return-to-work processing.
  • Partner with Payroll, HRIS, and Business leaders to coordinate leave administration and employee return-to-work activities.
  • Educate employees and managers on leave policies, workplace accommodations, and available benefit programs.
  • Monitor leave activity, identify trends, and recommend process improvements that enhance operational efficiency and the employee experience.
  • Develop and maintain leave policies, procedures, and supporting documentation while assisting with audits and regulatory compliance.
  • Advise managers and employees on state and federal employment regulations, collective agreements, benefit and compensation policies, personnel procedures and classification program.
  • Evaluate job positions, determining classification, exempt or non-exempt status, and salary.
  • Prepare occupational classifications, job descriptions and salary scales.
  • Assist in preparing and maintaining personnel records and handbooks.
  • Prepare reports, such as organization and flow charts, and career path reports, to summarize job analysis and evaluation and compensation analysis information.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience administering Leave of Absence, Disability, and ADA accommodation programs.
  • Demonstrated experience managing the ADA interactive process and workplace accommodations.
  • Strong working knowledge of FMLA, ADA, Short-Term Disability, Long-Term Disability, and multi-state leave regulations.
  • Experience partnering with a third-party leave administrator.
  • Experience using Workday or a comparable Human Capital Management (HCM) system.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage highly confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
  • Verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail, customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage one’s time.
  • Knowledge of legal policies and procedures related to hiring practices (i.e., equal employment opportunity and affirmative action).
  • Knowledge of benefit and pay-scale systems.
  • Basic mentoring skills necessary to provide support and constructive performance feedback.
  • Previous experience with computer applications, such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR, or Certified Leave Management Specialist (CLMS) certification.
  • Experience supporting a multi-state U.S. workforce.
  • Experience partnering with Reliance Matrix/Reliance Standard Life Insurance or another third-party leave administrator.
